Anna Cardwell Provides Fans With Health Update Weeks After Being Diagnosed With ‘Very Aggressive’ Form of Adrenal Cancer at 28 Years Old

Anna Cardwell, the 28-year-old daughter of Mama June Shannon, took to her Instagram on Wednesday, May 10 to provide her fans with a health update as she continues her battle against Stage 4 adrenal cancer. It was quite a positive and uplifting update for Cardwell, who ensured things are going well.

“Well going on to round 3 of chemo. This yesterday it was pretty good day but did get a little and Cracker Barrel was good going down but not up, but overall it’s going good and chemo is working we come to find so things are looking good,” she wrote – sharing a photo of her and her boyfriend, Eldridge Toney.

Anna Cardwell is a mother to two daughters – Kaitlyn Elizabeth (born in 2012) and Kylee Madison (born in 2015). She shares Kylee with her ex-husband Michael Cardwell, while Kaitlyn’s father is unknown. Anna went ‘Instagram official’ with Toney in 2019 and the couple have been happy together ever since.

She was originally diagnosed with adrenal carcinoma in January 2023, but she started to experience symptoms in August 2022. She had a cyst removed after complaining of back pain, but it wasn’t until she lost all her hair several months later that doctors caught the cancer – they started treating it immediately.

By the time she was diagnosed, the cancer had already spread to her liver, spleen, and lungs. On May 4, Mama June Shannon opened up about her daughter’s diagnosis and how she’s handling the treatment. She revealed that Anna has her good days and bad days, but struggles with eating and sleeps frequently.

“There are days where I don’t know [whether] to scream, get mad, or be happy,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “As her mom, we’ve had talks you don’t want to have with your child. We know what the endgame is and we are prepared for that. You’re never prepared, but we know what could happen.”

At the time, she confirmed that her daughter had just undergone her second round of chemo, but we now know – two weeks later – that she has completed her third round of chemo. And if her recent health update on Instagram is any indication, it appears the treatment is going well and the family is hopeful.

Anna Cardwell Taking Things One Day at a Time

In an exclusive interview with Page Six last month, Mama June Shannon was brutally honest with her fanbase and admitted that they ‘don’t know what the life expectancy is.’ The family is preparing for the worst-case scenario as Anna Cardwell continues her treatment, but will remain by her side regardless.

“She’s close to the hospital in case anything happens. Me, Pumpkin or Alanna come up one day [to visit], then Jessica,” she continued, referencing her three other daughters – Jessica “Chubbs” Shannon, 26, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, 23, and Alanna “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, 17. They won’t give up on her.

Anna Cardwell hasn’t always had the greatest relationship with her mother. Their relationship started going south in 2003 when Mama June’s then-husband sexually assaulted Anna – who decided to move out and live with her grandmother. At the time, Mama June was having a hard time believing Anna.
