Technically 36 is preterm, that doesn’t mean that they will require NICU. weight has nothing to do with it. Some full term 8 lb babies need NICU. My son was 34 weeks almost 7 lbs and had to stay in NICU for 2 weeks. 36 weeks is kind of maybe they will maybe they won’t. My oldest was 37 weeks and considered “early term”. Doctors won’t induce for non medical reason before 39 weeks.

It seems like it depends on your obgyn. My oldest was born at 38 weeks- full term. my second 37 weeks full term also. my youngest was 36 2 days shy of 37, but was considered a late term premie

My son was born at 36 weeks since my water broke. He was 7.3 lbs, he did stay a week as they wanted to monitor him.

36-37 weeks is considered Full Term. That begin said. Each OB has their own thoughts on full term #'s.

My first was induced at 39 wks on the dot. My second I was induced at 38wks 2days. I had gestational diabetes with both. Thankfully we did 38wks with my newborn (born 2-8) because he still got stuck and broke his collar bone coming out :pensive: but their weights and length were so close to each other! 1st was 7lbs 7oz 19in 2nd was 7lbs 8oz 18.5in

ACOG and SMFM use these definitions to describe term pregnancies:

Early term: Your baby is born between 37 weeks, 0 days and 38 weeks, 6 days.

Full term: Your baby is born between 39 weeks, 0 days and 40 weeks, 6 days.

Late term: Your baby is born between 41 weeks, 0 days and 41 weeks, 6 days.

Post term: Your baby is born after 42 weeks, 0 days.

37 is full term cuz the lungs r then fully prepared and ready for the baby to breath on its own. Had my princess at 38 weeks

37+ weeks. Most histograms won’t induce until 37 weeks along. 36 is considered late preterm.

37 weeks is full term, some hospitals have policies that babies born before 37 weeks have to go to NICU.

Technically it’s 40 weeks is full term…but everyone differs on when they have their new bundles!
