Thoughts on owning a pitbull with kids?

My husband wants to get a pitbull. He’s really cute and only 4 months but I’m worried about later on. We have a 2 year old and she great with animals, we got a cat and bearded dragon. She does great helping out and feeding them.

Uh seriously :face_with_raised_eyebrow: pit bulls are great family dogs.
Edited to add: dont go out and get one if your just going to keep it outdoors/locked up because your “scared.”

We had a blue nose pit when my youngest was about a year old. He was the sweetest dog ever. My daughter use to lay on him and play with his ears and tail. (Never mean like. No pulling or hitting) dog would just lay there and nudge her with his nose. Sweetest thing ever. Just make sure your pit it gentle with young ones and they will be best friends.

I have a pitbull and out of my 4 dogs, he is one of the best with my 2 year old. We didn’t even rescue him till he was 6/7 months old. Adopting a younger one is better yet.

Contrary to what is believed, they are wonderful dogs to have for family pets.

She is asking a legit question because she must have had bad news from misinformed people.

Pitbulls are great with children as long as you treat them right.

I have a bluenose :woman_shrugging:t3: and I got two toddlers and one is disabled soooo yea

Honestly, I don’t think the breed matters. If you treat the puppy with respect and make sure your children treat the puppy with respect I don’t see the issue. Any abused animal can turn on anyone.

I had my pit before having any of my daughters. He was their big brother and treated them like his babies. He was very protective of the four of us and the house, like almost to a vicious point. But the girls could climb all over him and he wouldn’t even move… He ended up biting my ex during one of our arguments, but bc the girls were present it turned very ugly. In my eyes, he was doing his job.

He was 12 yrs old with cancer and arthritis. I had to put him down in Sept and the house has not felt the same with out him.

I have a pit mix and he is nothing but gentle with my kids (3&8). We got the dog at 11 months old almost 3 years ago

As long as u teach your child to respect the dogs boundaries, there shouldn’t be a problem. Pits are the best dogs

What are you worried about? That you will mistreat the dog, and cause it to become aggressive toward you? Pitbulls are like any other dog. They are molded by their surroundings.

Pitties are one of the absolute best! Great nanny dogs.

It’s all about how they are raised and treated. Wonderful family dogs. We got our pit when our daughter was 2 and they have grown up together and are best friends.

Do these look like they are going to attack her? these girls love all 3 of my kids and the white one protects my stomach with my new child on the way.
