What should I expect with having mastitis?

I went to the doctor today for breast pain. I have a fever and was diagnosed with an infection in my left breast. My doctor said I need to take antibiotics and told me he would call them into a nearby pharmacy. Now I called the pharmacy, and they said they never got the script for the antibiotics. So I can’t get them tonight because I have no way of reaching my doctor until tomorrow (his office is closed), but I’m really worried this infection is going to worsen overnight (it only started last night and has already been extremely painful and scary) I guess my question is if anyone else has had mastitis and what to expect in the next 12 hours or so? Can it get worse overnight? If so, how bad? I’m really scared and am in need of advice…

I got sick really fast with mastitis. Doctors offices usually have an after hours line. If not maybe consider an urgent care?

Until youbget antibiotics use a warm rag on your breasts. It will help with let down. If you are nursing use your breast pump to express milk.

If you’re breastfeeding then pump as much as possible. Try a hand pump in the shower. Try a heating pad on your breast too. And massage it even though it hurts super bad.

Warm washcloth worked for me to ease the pain. I waited 3 days until I went to the doctor by then my breast had turned very red and couldn’t move due to the pain I had a high fever and the infection spread toward the bottom of my breast towards my stomach. I know how painful it is. Hang in there momma.

Dangle feed. Get on all four (sounds crazy, I know😂) and feed baby. Instantly releases pressure

I had some mild breast pain and couldn’t get baby to drain it. It went to fever and chills quickly. I went to my local clinic because my gp was closed and got tested for the flu and then we decided it was prob mastitis.

I got antibiotics that day and had a low grade fever and slept and nursed. That’s all baby and I did for about 18-24 hours was sleep, nurse, and pump.

They antibiotics worked quickly for me and the fever went away in about a day.

I wouldn’t wait to start taking them, could you go to a local clinic? You don’t have to pay for the script if it’s never filled

Hot shower and massage , use a padded brush (sounds daft but it helps) try and feed as much as you can . Even though it will be sore. Also try express from what ever side is sore. Also cabbage leaves are meant to help too ( never tried that one) Once you get the antibiotics it will ease the pain in a few days,

I had it frequently. Take Tylenol. Nurse baby as much as possible… And use hot compresses on the red spot. That worse I ever felt was like I had a mild case of the flu. Remember the breast milk is not affected. It’s the milk duct.

Pump with a HOT cloth on the infected side.
Take a HOT shower and massage massage massage
When you sleep lay on that side with no bra and lay that arm above your head. (Put a towel down incase the clot loosens) continue to pump. Take Tylenol
(I had mastitis while my son was in nicu and I was there with him. The nurses on the floor helped me through it till someone could bring me my antibiotics.)

Find an after hours provider and call. Or call your local ER or Urgent care and explain the situation. Mastitis can get very bad very quick

Call nurses hotline, always take advice from a medical proffesional just incase! These ideas are great, but nurses hotline is free and 24/7

A warm bath, breasts first. So upside down in the tub.

Your doctor should have an after hours hotline… Call it explain the problem and that you need the dr to call you… He / she should call you back within half an hour and explain to them the situation they can phone in a script

Hot compress, hot shower, massage in the shower. I had it so bad I ended up getting a nursing bleb. VERY PAINFUL. Just let them nurse continuously pretty much. Dangle nurse, cabbage leaves help with the swelling

Cabbage leaf in your bra, just do research on how long to leave it there because it will dry up your milk if used too much
