In the first episode of his new show, Celebrity IOU: Joyride, on which host Ant Anstead met his now girlfriend Renee Zellweger, Anstead was in for a “crushing” surprise. As it turns out, Briget Jones isn’t British!
Ant Anstead has had a celebrity crush on Zellweger for years.
In the first episode of Celebrity IOU: Joyride, Ant Anstead’s cohost Cristy Lee had a fun little piece of celebrity trivia to share. She explained, “Did you know that during the filming of Bridget Jones’s Diary, Renee spoke with a British accent even when she wasn’t on set? In fact, she kept it up until the wrap party!” Zellweger was appearing on the show to restore Jerome and Jerald’s cars. The two brothers who had taken care of Zellweger’s now late publicist, Nanci Ryder, during her battle with ALS.
Ant Anstead evidently was unaware that his costar and now girlfriend is from Texas. He replied, “Are you telling me that Bridget Jones — Renee Zellweger — isn’t British?” After Cristy Lee explained Zellweger’s point of origin, Anstead took the news hard, saying, “You’re like a dream crusher for me.” We guess Ant Anstead couldn’t predict his future relationship!

Things are going great between Renee Zellweger and Ant Anstead.
In a conversation with People Magazine, different sources close to the couple explained how well they work together. One source explained how the stars aligned for the two of them, given Anstead’s recent divorce from actress Christina Haack. They revealed, “Sometimes two people just meet and click, and the timing is right.” They continued by explaining what Renee sees in Anstead, saying, “Renée is creative…and often goes for guys who think out of the box. She’s smart, thoughtful, and always looking to expand horizons and nurture those around her.”
A different source opened up about how both Renee and Ant are working to fit their relationship with their careers, explaining, “They are getting pretty serious about each other. They’re both busy with various projects and their careers, but they have a major attraction to each other.”
“They do beach outings, go for ice cream and other child-friendly activities,” revealed another source when talking about how Renee and Ant Anstead are involving her in Anstead’s 2-year-old son’s life. The source continued, “They’re spending most of their time together in Laguna Beach since Ant lives there, and they seem very happy.”
