Arnold Schwarzenegger And Maria Shriver Officially Divorce 10 Years After Breaking Up

After 10 years, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver are finally divorced.

Shriver petitioned to end her then-25-year marriage to Schwarzenegger after he admitted he had fathered a child with a member of their household staff years earlier.

The two had been married since 1986.

A Los Angeles judge finalized the divorce on Tuesday, court records show. Despite the media blasting the controversial breakup, both Schwarzenegger and Shriver quietly handled their divorce, away from the public eye.

It is not clear why exactly the divorce took as long as it did. In addition, the financial details of the settlement were kept confidential. And as their four children are now all adults, there is no child support or custody agreement.

And while settlement papers state that neither owes the other any spousal support, both do reserve the right to seek it through the court in the future.

Schwarzenegger garnered a massive following as an actor in the “Terminator” as well as “Conan” film franchises after a successful career as a bodybuilder.

He then went on to govern the state of California in 2003.

The Republican then put aside his film career to focus on politics and served a total of two terms.

And it was within a year of leaving office that he admitted to fathering a child, Joseph Baena, who is now 24, with a member of his household staff in the late 1990s. Shriver filed for divorce in July 2011.

Arnold has since returned to acting here and there, with roles in “Terminator” and “Expendables” films. While Shriver, a television journalist, quit NBC News, sharing how it would be hard to focus on her journalism job as well as her duties as first lady of California.

She went on to resume her work as a television journalist after her husband left office, producing stories for NBC while remaining active in promoting women’s rights issues and reporting on and advocating for people with Alzheimer’s disease.

Shriver is the daughter of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who was the sister of President John F. Kennedy, and of Sargent Shriver, the first head of the Peace Corps and a vice presidential candidate in 1972.

Shriver and Schwarzenegger’s children range in age from 24 to 32. One of their daughters, Katherine Schwarzenegger, is an author who is married to actor Chris Pratt.
