Model Ashley Graham and her husband of 9 years Justin Ervin became parents for the first time on January 18. After announcing their son’s birth on Ashley’s Instagram story, the couple celebrated his first days on earth privately.
It wasn’t until their son, Isaac Menelik Giovanni Ervin, was 17 days old that they finally introduced him to the world on an episode of her podcast, Pretty Big Deal. However, his adoring fans have yet to get a glimpse of his little face.
During the podcast, Ashley and Justin explained the meaning behind his names. Isaac was a name Justin thought of while growing up when he and his sister would dream about what they would call their own kids one day.
The inspiration for Menelik came after the couple traveled to Ethiopia in 2018. Menelik was the name of the first Emporer of Ethiopia and it means son of the wise. “Everything in his name is pointing to legacy,” Justin explained. And Giovanni is the Italian version of John, the name of both Ashley and Justin’s grandfathers.

Shortly after sharing the podcast was made public, Ashley took to Instagram to share a photo of their baby boy breastfeeding. The photo also included Justin who was looking loving at his newborn son.
Ashley wrote, “I remember holding Isaac for the first time and telling Justin, ‘Now we’re family forever.’ I have so many reasons to be grateful; all of the love and support from this amazing community, an incredible husband, and a beautiful baby who has opened my eyes to just how amazing this world really is. Justin and Isaac, thank you for being my favorite Pretty Big Deal guests so far.”
During their 30-minute conversation on Pretty Big Deal, Ashley also talked about making pregnant friends, soaking in all the advice she could, but ultimately only choosing what was right for her. And that’s when Graham revealed she delivered their son at home and had an entirely natural birth.
“I have to say now though that I gave birth and I did it naturally and I felt everything, I feel like there’s nothing I can’t do,” Ashley said of giving birth. “Like there’s nothing that can come my way where I say, ‘Oh that’s too hard. I can’t handle that.’ I went through laboring six hours naturally.”
She added on Instagram, “Nothing prepares you for just how magical and intense giving birth is; I’m so grateful that I was able to deliver naturally in my home with my husband by my side for all 6 hours of labor. Holding my baby for the first time is a moment I’ll never forget.”
