Planning date nights, generally speaking, is hard enough, but planning a special night that can (must… given most of our current circumstances…) be done at home is even more challenging. It’s just too easy to fall into the habit of getting take out and streaming the latest movie on Netflix. Luckily, there are lots of ways to spruce up your typical stay-at-home date night.
We’ve gathered some of our favorite unique stay-at-home date night ideas below.
Easy, Fun, and Romantic At-Home Date Night Ideas
Virtual Wine Tasting
Since many people are now staying at home rather than going out, many wineries have set up virtual wine tastings you can do from the comfort of home. A sampling of wine can be sent right to your doorstep to enjoy during the virtual tasting. Plan ahead and get your favorite charcuterie board items and chocolates to complete the experience.
Online Cooking Class
Similar to the wine tastings, many chefs and restaurants are offering virtual cooking classes you can do from home. Choose your favorite restaurant and recipe and stock up on the list of grocery items while you learn to whip up an entree like the pros. Research wine pairings ahead of time so you can replicate the restaurant experience from your dining room.
Whip up some specialty cocktails, grab your favorite snacks and sit down for a fun and competitive game night. Choose from games that are perfect for two or choose a four-player game to set-up the perfect double date you can do from home.
Turn your house into a mini spa for the day for some quality time together without leaving your house. Treat yourself to comfy robes, fruit-infused water to sip on during the day and light snacks to get you in the mood. You can book a couples’ massage with an at-home masseuse, make your own face masks or relax in a bath for two.
Make use of the great outdoors – or at least your backyard – by setting up a picnic at twilight. Put together your favorite food and make a special date-night cocktail to enjoy while you’re watching the sunset. End the evening with a decadent dessert you can enjoy under the stars. Bonus points if you have a fire pit and can whip up some s’mores while cuddling under a blanket.
Outdoor Movie Night
Depending on your space, you can get a projector to show a feature film on your backyard fence or the side of your house. Replicate the drive-in movie experience with candy, buttered popcorn and soft drinks. (Plus, you can use the projector to show kids’ movies during non-date nights, too!)
Travel Abroad Without Leaving Home
Many museums and tourist attractions offer online tours, making it a great option to escape your everyday routine from the comfort of your couch. Choose from sites like the British Museum in London, Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and Machu Picchu. Step things up a notch by matching your cuisine and drink choice to the museum or attractions locale.
Life gets so busy that it’s not always easy to take a moment and think outside the box for ways to spend time together outside of your normal routines. The above ideas are just a starting point for how you can take stay-at-home date night up a notch.
When I’m not hanging out with my three-year-old and husband in Brooklyn, I’m busy writing stories for Mamas Uncut and managing PR + Marketing for Magnolia Bakery, based in New York City. On weekends, you can usually find me at a local park or playground pushing my daughter on the swings, “researching” the best almond croissants in Park Slope or launching into impromptu family dance parties at home, the sidewalk or, every once in awhile, a restaurant bathroom. I’m still trying to master the whole parenting thing, but I have learned that copious amounts of coffee, humor and humility are involved on a daily basis.
Mamas Uncut is the place for moms online. We cover the latest news around motherhood and parenting, plus entertainment news as well – all with a mom-focused twist. Looking for parenting advice? We have plenty of it, all for moms, from moms. Our mission is focused solely on empowering moms and moms-to-be with the knowledge and answers they’re looking for. We don’t stop there though, we have expert advice on a range of topics, and all of our categories get updated multiple times a day, so if there’s one website for moms you need to bookmark, it’s Mamas Uncut. We cover it all, from the latest and trendiest baby names, in the US and all over the world, to advice for moms in the workplace, or mom to mom advice on balancing it all. Looking for an answer to a specific question you’ve have? Head over to our new answers section, where you can ask questions on a nearly endless amount of topics, and you’ll get answers fast – really fast. Mamas Uncut is more than just the place for moms, it’s the community of moms – all here to help, make friends, and more. Not sure where to start? Take a look at one of our key topic areas like Pregnancy or Relationships – if you’re looking for advice on a specific topic, there’s a pretty good chance that we’ve already written on it (a few times), or that it’s within our answers section. If you don’t have time to read the site every day, we also have a newsletter that you can control how often you want to receive – that way we send all of the must-see content for moms directly to your inbox – it’s that easy. So go ahead and take a look around, ask a question, or just keep reading, we’re glad you’re here.
