The Best Lotions, Creams, and Remedies to Cure Baby’s Dry Skin

Portrait of cute little happy baby girl

Dry skin plagues babies just as it does adults. But with babies’ skin being particularly sensitive, what’s the best (and safest) way to alleviate redness, itchiness, and flakiness? We got the Mamas Uncut community to give us their best suggestions for curing a baby’s dry skin.

A member of the Mamas Uncut Facebook community asks:

My three-year-old has really dry skin (the air is very dry where we live). He also unfortunately has pretty sensitive skin. Any recommendation for a lotion or a moisturizer or balm or whatever that would help alleviate some itchy/flakiness but not be too harsh? We have a doctor’s appointment next week (unrelated) and I might ask, but was wondering if maybe there was just something we could buy now to start helping. Prefer natural/organic products, but other suggestions are ok too.

Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment Advanced Therapy

Aquaphor products, which are widely available and super-easy to find, are always a good bet for combatting dry skin. They are paraben-, dye-, and fragrance-free, and the brand is recommended by many pediatricians for treating dry, irritated skin. Aquaphor allows baby’s skin to breath while providing intense moisture. They even have a range of products specifically for babies and young children with dry skin, diaper rash, and drool rash.

CeraVe Baby Moisturizing Lotion ($9.54 for 8 oz. Bottle)

CeraVe Baby Moisturizing Lotion

Like Aquaphor products, CeraVe Baby products are fragrance-, paraben-, sulphate-, and dye-free. They are full of vitamins to moisturize and nourish skin. The CeraVe Baby lotion was developed with dermatologists to address dryness specifically in baby’s sensitive skin. This brand is also widely available (at Target, drugstores, and elsewhere), but you can order the baby moisturizing lotion on Amazon for the good price of $9.54.

Aveeno Baby Daily Moisturizing Lotion ($8.92 for 18 Fluid oz. Bottle)

Another widely available brand, Aveeno products are typically effective and highly affordable. Their Daily Moisture Lotion for babies is pediatrician-recommended and is gentle enough to use every day. The formula includes “colloidal oatmeal blended with rich emollients that soothe and help protect your baby’s delicate skin.” It helps moisturize for 24 hours, and it also won’t clog your baby’s pores.

Dove Baby Lotion Sensitive Moisture ($16 for Two 13 oz. Bottles)

Dove Baby Lotion Sensitive Moisture

Dove is go-to for adults with sensitive skin, and it’s no different for babies. Their widely available skincare products for sensitive skin are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and pH-neutral. And at $16 for 26 fluid oz., their Baby Lotion Sensitive Moisture is the most affordable option of the bunch.
