Melissa McCarthy is grabbing the mic after Barbra Streisand spoke out about the comment she left under McCarthy’s Instagram photo that went viral.
While reading a copy of Barbra: Celebrating an Icon, McCarthy said, “The takeaway, Barbra Streisand knows I exist. She reached out to me and she thought I looked good! I win the day.”
On April 29, McCarthy took to Instagram to share a couple photos of herself with her friend, director Adam Shankman, whom she attended the Center Theatre Group gala with. In the photos, McCarthy looked incredible in a pastel green ensemble.
Thousands of people commented on the photos, many of them positive comments about how great McCarthy looks and many of them coming from her famous friends. One of the comments, now removed from the page entirely, came from Barbra Streisand herself. “Give him my regards,” Streisand wrote, adding, “did you take Ozempic?”
The seemingly brash comment caught the attention of so many people. Now, Streisand is clarifying why she left the comment in the first place.
“OMG,” Streisand began her statement she shared in her Instagram Stories. “I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday!”
“Below them was a photo of my friend, Melissa McCarthy, who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”
McCarthy was also asked about the comment by paparazzi who caught up with her on April 30th. McCarthy didn’t seem all that affected by it.
“I think Barbra is a treasure,” Melissa told the paps. “And I love her.”
