Billie Lourd has recently spoken on how her mother’s parenting has affected raising her own child, Kingston Fisher.
Lourd, 29, appeared on Monday’s episode of the New Day podcast speaking on her mother-daughter relationship with Carrie Fisher and how it carries over (or doesn’t) into how she parents her 1-year-old son.
“My main job when [Fisher] was alive was taking care of her and making sure she was okay,” Lourd stated during her conversation with host Claire Bidwell Smith.
“I was her main support, and I was 7, for a lot of the time, and that was really hard and that’s why I grew up really fast because I was her best friend. I was her mother, I was her kid, I was her everything. And that’s one of the things I’m learning not to do with my kid.”
She continued on, sharing: “There’s a lot of things that my mom taught me to do and then there’s a lot that is, honestly it might be more valuable, of what not to do. And that’s one of the things that I will not do to my son is put this pressure on him that I had on me.”

Fisher died in 2016 at the age of 60. And four years later, Lourd welcomed her first baby with fiancé Austen Rydell and honored her late mother with their baby’s middle name.
This past Mother’s Day, Lourd wrote a heartbreaking tribute for her friends, fans and followers via Instagram in light of her mother’s passing.
“Sending my love to anyone who has lost a mother and anyone who might just be having a complicated Mother’s Day this year, she began.

“This is my 4th Mother’s Day without my Momby and days like today are never easy, but I’ve found that doing things that make me feel more connected to her make it a little easier – watching her favorite movies, listening to music we listened to together, looking through old pictures and my personal favorite – eating + drinking things she loved.”
She went on to list her mom’s favorite things and how she would be honoring her by partaking in La Scala’s fried mozzarella and Cocoa-Colas “with an aggressive amount of ice.”
“Today I’m going to watch Postcards from The Edge, listen to Tom Petty + Dire Straits, have a fried mozzarella from La Scala and have a couple Coca-Colas with an aggressive amount of ice. Happy Mother’s Day, but Mother’s Day can be more than just one adjective, so sad Mother’s Day / weird Mother’s Day / funny Mother’s Day / angry Mother’s Day / or any combination of the above.”
