Bindi Irwin Opens Up About Her Endometriosis Diagnosis and Has Message for Those Asking If She’ll Have Another Child

On March 7, Bindi Irwin – the only daughter of legendary wildlife expert Steve Irwin – revealed she was diagnosed with endometriosis after a 10-year battle with fatigue, pain, and nausea. She was forced to live through that pain while doctors tried to figure out what was wrong with her, but she now has an answer.

“Trying to remain a positive person & hide the pain has been a very long road. These last 10yrs have included many tests, doctors visits, scans, etc.,” she wrote in her caption – sharing a photo of her in a hospital gown hooked up to what appears to be an IV. The post has received nearly 1 million likes.

At first, Bindi wasn’t sure if she should share her story publicly due to how personal it is. She eventually came to the conclusion that she had a ‘responsibility’ to share it for all the women out there going through “something similar – especially those that might not have an answer for the physical pain they’re feeling.

When she first started seeing a doctor about her pain, she was told it was nothing more than something all women experience. Despite giving up and trying to learn how to deal with the pain, one of her friends – Leslie Mosier – gave her the courage to continue fighting for an answer to regain control of her life.

“I decided to undergo surgery for endometriosis. Going in for surgery was scary but I knew I couldn’t live like I was. Every part of my life was getting torn apart because of the pain. To cut a long story short, they found 37 lesions, some very deep & difficult to remove, & a chocolate cyst,” Bindi Irwin continued.

After she was diagnosed with endometriosis, her doctors at Seckin Endometriosis Center in New York City asked her, “How did you live with this much pain?” – a testament to just how much pain she was going through for the past DECADE! Finally, Bindi was given the validation she had been searching for.

“My family & friends who have been on this journey with me for 10+ yrs – THANK YOU, for encouraging me to find answers when I thought I’d never climb out. Thank you to the doctors & nurses who believed my pain. I’m on the road to recovery & the gratitude I feel is overwhelming,” she proclaimed in the caption.

Bindi Irwin Says Think Twice Before Asking Her About Having More Children

Bindi Irwin continued to explain why she might’ve seemed absent lately – mainly because she had been ‘pouring every ounce of energy’ she had left into her daughter and family. “Things may look fine on the outside looking in through the window of someone’s life, however, that is not always the case,” she wrote.

And for those who are wondering/asking when she might be having another child, she had a small message for them as well. “Please be gentle & pause before asking me (or any woman) when we’ll be having more children,” she said – citing the tremendous amount of pain her body has gone through.

She said she’s ‘tremendously grateful’ for her daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell – who she shares with husband Chandler Powell and turns two years old on March 25 (the same day as the couple’s wedding anniversary). Bindi feels that her daughter is her family’s miracle and is devoted to being her mother.
