The world is learning a lot about what happened during the 2016 plane incident between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and their children, thanks in large part to new court documents filed in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The allegations are part of a countersuit filed by Jole against Pitt.
The countersuit regards their battle over Château Miraval, a vineyard the two owned while they were still together. The filings shed light on what exactly went down on that plane in 2016, which ultimately led to Jolie filing for divorce. If the accusations are true, it’s a major development.
Here’s what allegedly went down. Pitt was seen acting aggressively toward his family before taking off on a private jet. After a confrontation with one of his children, Pitt started to verbally abuse Jolie as the jet took off. Things got physical when Pitt pulled Jolie into the jet bathroom.

He proceeded to verbally abuse her, grab her by the head, shake her, and push her before hitting the ceiling of the jet various times. Jolie exited the bathroom, which led one of their kids to ask if she was okay – Pitt responded, “No, Mommy’s not okay” before continuing the abuse.
The court filing then detailed how the children got involved in the altercation between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie:
“When one of the children verbally defended Jolie, Pitt lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him. The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face. Some of the children pleaded with Pitt to stop.”
Pitt also allegedly poured beer and wine on both his wife and children during the fiasco. Even when the plane landed and Jolie notified Pitt that she was taking the kids to a hotel without him, Pitt reportedly continued the abuse – including physically abusing another one of his children.
“He also grabbed and shook Jolie by the head and shoulders, causing one of the children to beg, ‘Don’t hurt her.’ He let Jolie go, but then called her a ‘b*tch,’ before adding, ‘F*ck you, f*ck you all,’” the court documents explained. The story just kept getting worse and worse.
Not even a week after this jet ride, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt. The two have been locked in legal battles ever since.
Nearly four million cases of child abuse are reported in the United States every single year. Not only that, but nearly 20 people in the US are physically abused by their significant other every single minute – with 19% of all domestic abuse involving some form of a dangerous weapon.
