In the report, Broussard was notified of the skeletal remains discovered in the Carlton Reserve on October 21, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. They had been found roughly an hour earlier alongside a backpack and a pair of shoes that were believed to be Laundrie’s.

Upon investigating the scene, which was divided into two sections known as the “main scene” and the “secondary scene.” Broussard revealed that he discovered multiple human bone fragments which included “a right and left scapula, a right humerus, a left and right femur, two tibias, two clavicles, two pelvis, one right ulna, one right radius, a sacrum, multiple ribs, about 25 vertebrae, and multiple skull fragments including the maxilla and mandible.”

In addition to those bone fragments, the examiner also discovered a pair of green shorts with a green belt, two slip-on shoes, a backpack, a white metal ring, and a snub-nose revolver handgun at the main scene. At the secondary scene, a handwritten half note and a hat with a “MOAB Coffee Roasters” logo on it were found. Moab is where both Brian and Gabby were pulled over by police following a domestic disturbance.

Also found was a drybag that contained a journal and a wooden box. Inside the wooden box was a small notebook, a picture of Brian Laundrie, and several more pictures of unknown content.

The maxilla and mandible, which had existing teeth, were processed as evidence by the FBI for “potential identification purposes.” The following day, Broussard requested Laundrie’s dental records. Broussard later confirmed that the bone fragments belonged to 23-year-old Brian Laundrie.

However, it wasn’t until November 19, 2021, that DNA analysis also confirmed the sections of femur bone and molar belonged to Laundrie as well.

Upon contacting Laundrie’s parents, they told Broussard that “their son was very healthy and had no known medical history.” They continued to say Laundrie “did not take any medications and had no known primary care physician.”

“When I asked about the decedent’s social history, Mr. and Mrs. Laundrie stated that they did not want to provide that information,” Broussard wrote in the report.

Laundrie’s cause of death is labeled as a gunshot wound to the head by manner of suicide.

As Mamas Uncut previously reported, the FBI revealed that the contents of Laundrie’s journal claimed responsibility for Petito’s death. However, detailed specifics of Laundrie’s note were not made available to the public.

Petito’s body was discovered in the Bridger-Teton National Forest on September 19. She was found to have been manually strangled to death.
