Celebrity moms seem to have it all — they’re often photographed going from one fabulous event or vacation to the next, hanging out with their adorable children, and smiling for the cameras. While it’s true that they’re often doing fabulous things (or at least it looks that way in the photos they share), celeb moms are also balancing the approximately 1 million things all moms do, including managing their kids’ schedules and work. These are the celebrity mom-bosses we admire.
Honestly, we find it inspiring to see celebrity moms work so hard to manage family and career. Here are 10 celeb moms that do more than just work it for the camera: they also work their butts off behind the camera while running major businesses.
Jessica Alba, The Honest Co.
Pre-Honest Company, Alba was perhaps best known for her roles in Sin City, Dark Angel, and Fantastic Four. After having children, she was having trouble finding products that were as safe as they were effective, and thus The Honest Company was born. Today it’s known for playfully-patterned diapers, organic formula, shampoo and body wash, and more. Oh, and it’s valued at nearly $1 billion dollars, so we’d say her career pivot paid off.
Jessica Simpson, The Jessica Simpson Collection
Like the Jessica listed before her, Jessica Simpson has also had a notable career transition from music and movies to business mogul. Before launching the Jessica Simpson Collection in 2006, she was known for her pop music and film appearances. After the company was valued at over $1 billion, she sold a majority stake of the Jessica Simpson Collection in 2016 for a reported $170 million.
Serena Williams, Serena
When Serena Williams isn’t crushing it on the tennis court, she’s running Serena, her fashion label that launched in May of 2018. Before launching her own line, Serena had designed collections with Nike and HSN. Her namesake collection includes comfortable, day-to-day styles, including jeans, blazers, and dresses.
Reese Witherspoon, Hello Sunshine & Draper James
Reese Witherspoon, mom of three, has appeared in more than 40 movies; launched Hello Sunshine, the media company and book club that celebrates women and “puts them at the center of the story;” and founded Draper James, the fashion line known for classic, preppy looks. When she’s not in the office, you can catch Reese on season two of Big Little Lies on HBO, premiering June 9.
Beyoncé, Parkwood Entertainment
There’s no doubt that Beyoncé is a powerhouse; she’s sold hundreds of millions of records, won more than 20 Grammy Awards, performed the Superbowl half-time show (twice), was deemed Forbes’ most powerful woman in entertainment three years in a row, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. She’s also a mom of three and wife to Jay-Z. So yeah, she’s basically the definition of a celebrity mom-boss. With her life on stage, it only made sense that she launched Parkwood Entertainment in 2010. The company manages music production, motion pictures and television specials related to Beyonce, including the recent Homecoming: The Live Album and Homecoming Netflix special.
Drew Barrymore, Flower Beauty & Flower Home
Drew Barrymore, mom of two, launched Flower Beauty in 2013 with a mission: to provide women with great quality make-up at a reasonable price. Today, her line includes a range of makeup, fragrance,s and beauty accessories. Barrymore also recently launched a home collection, exclusively available at Walmart, which includes more than 200 pieces, including vases, couches, chairs, and art prints.
Kim Kardashian West, KKW Beauty & KKW Fragrance
One of the most iconic celebrity mom-bosses, Kim Kardashian-West, is known for many things, not least of which is her oft-chronicled fashion choices. Whether or not you’re a Kardashian fan, you can’t argue that she’s perhaps the best example of making a business out of being a celebrity. In 2017, Kardashian West launched KKW Beauty and KKW Fragrance, both of which have been very successful. Kardashian West has also been the face of multiple fashion campaigns for YEEZY, Balmain and Calvin Klein.
Jennifer Garner, Once Upon a Farm
In addition to being a mom of three, movie star, striving chef, and crafter, Garner is co-founder and Chief Branding Officer of Once Upon a Farm, a company which produces organic, cold-pressed blends from fruits and vegetables grown on Garner’s century-old family farm. Once Upon a Farm is committed to being the first fresh baby food to be accepted by the WIC program and USDA’s special supplemental nutrition program.
Kate Hudson, Fabletics
Kate Hudson, mom of three, co-founded Fabletics in 2013. The brand is known for its colorful, playful, patterned leggings and leisure wear and is an extension of Hudson’s California lifestyle. The brand recently launched a pop-up store in NYC’s SoHo to long lines and Instagram-worthy photo opportunities. Prior to Fabletics, Hudson was known for her movie roles, including star turns Almost Famous, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Fool’s Gold.
Gwyneth Paltrow, Goop
It’s hard to remember a time when Gwyneth Paltrow was best-known for being an Academy Award-winner and Brad Pitt’s fiancée, but that time did exist. Today, though, she is perhaps best known as the co-founder and CEO of Goop, the “modern” lifestyle company that focuses on beauty, wellness, travel, and style. Not all Goop recommendations have gone down too well with followers and naysayers, but Paltrow can laugh all the way to the bank: Goop was recently valued at over $250 million. Plus, she’s our co-parenting icon!
