According to TMZ, Cher and Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards – who share a 40-year age gap between them – are no longer a couple after six months together. While it’s unclear what caused the split or who initiated the breakup, one source is confirming that they decided to go their separate ways “a couple weeks ago.”
That’s not even half of it, though. The source also confirmed that, while the two were definitely dating over the past six months, they were never engaged and it never got to that point. Rumors of an engagement began in December when she was spotted wearing a huge diamond ring while on a date with Alexander.
We’re now being told that the couple ‘decided to play into the speculation,’ but it wasn’t an engagement ring she was wearing. The following month, the legendary singer continued to play into the speculation by confirming they were engaged, but that was also just a product of the couple ‘having some fun.’ It was all just a joke.
Cher first bumped into Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards in October 2022 during Paris Fashion Week – they were attending the event separately, but introduced themselves at some point. Dating rumors began the following month when they were spotted in Los Angeles – holding hands while enjoying a date night.
She went public with her new boyfriend shortly after, confirming their relationship in a series of tweets – several sources followed as media outlets dug deeper. The engagement rumors really started to heat up when she posted a photo of a diamond ring, tweeting, “THERE R NO WORDS, ALEXANDER, A.E.”
She shared several photos of her and Alexander over the next few months and the couple made their official red carpet debut in March 2023 when they attended the Versace fashion show in LA together. There were no signs of a potential split at the time, but they called it quits at some point in April 2023.
“AE and Cher were never engaged and that ring he got her was just a gift. However, they had gotten very close and his son would even go over to Cher’s house in Malibu to play. Their relationship was real and they split a few weeks ago. There’s no bad blood between them and they’re on good terms,” a source told Us Weekly.

With Cher and Alexander A.E. Edwards no longer dating, he’ll now join a long list of other celebrities to share memories with the legendary singer. She has dated – and even married – her fair share of big-name stars over the past 50 years and isn’t shy about her love for younger men – she’s 76 years old.
She married Sonny Bono in 1964 and had her first child with him – Chaz Bono – in 1969, but Cher filed for divorce in 1974 after 10 years together. She then dated David Geffen briefly before marrying Gregg Allman in 1975. They had a son – Elijah Blue Allman – in 1976, but went their separate ways in 1979.
While she hasn’t been married since her divorce from Allman, she has dated a long list of celebrities and big names – including Gene Simmons, Val Kilmer, Josh Donen, Tom Cruise, Rob Camilletti, Richie Sambora, Warren Beatty, and Ron Zimmerman – from the 1980s all the way up until present day.
