Cher Defends Her Relationship With Music Executive Alexander Edwards and Their 40-Year Age Gap in a Series of Twitter Posts

In a series of Twitter posts on November 6th, Cher felt the need to defend herself and her new man – artist and producer Alexander Edwards – after being spotted holding hands last week. The singer, who turned 76 years old this year, doesn’t care what haters have to say about her 36-year-old boyfriend.

She first uploaded a photo of Alexander and captioned it ‘Alexander’ with a big red heart next to his name. She then posted a tweet that read ‘I’m Not Defending us. Haters are Gonna Hate…Doesn’t Matter. That we’re Happy & Not Bothering Anyone’ before directly responding to several of her fans and/or critics.

In the responses, Cher revealed her new man treats her like a queen and that the two met during Paris Fashion Week 2022. She also reveals that while Paulette – her best friend – hasn’t met him, her entire family has. Some users were supportive of the 40-year age gap, while others were more skeptical.

In fact, one Twitter user (Georgette Hohl, @CentralContest) wasn’t sure how to feel about it. While she seemed to be okay with the age gap, she was worried about Alexander’s intentions and wanted Cher ‘to be happy, but not taken advantage of.’ Her sentiment garnered a response from the 76-year-old singer.

“As we All Know …I WASN’T BORN YESTERDAY,& What I Know For Sure…There Are No Guarantees. Anytime you make a Choice You Take a Chance. I’ve Always Taken Chances…It’s WHO I Am,” said Cher on Twitter. Like she said in an earlier tweet, ‘haters are gonna hate,’ but she doesn’t care – she’s happy.

There were also several tweets by Cher that have since been deleted. One tweet, captured by The Shade Room, read ‘LOVE DOESN’T KNOW MATH, IT SEES ❤️ ❤️,” and another read ‘BABE ENGLISH IS MY FIRST LANGUAGE. I’M IN ❤️ NOT BLINDED BY IT. KNOW WHAT I KNOW … SMOKE DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN ????.’

Cher has been married twice – Sonny Bono for 11 years between 1964 and 1975, and Gregg Allman for four years between 1975 and 1979. Since then, she has dated several times, but nothing that ended in a third marriage. Nonetheless, she has been on the lookout for romance, so maybe she has finally found it.

Should Cher be Careful With Alexander Edwards?

While Cher quickly deflected the criticism and concern she received on Twitter, there’s a lot of merit to the concern fans feel over the 76-year-old’s new man. Alexander Edwards most recently dated Amber Rose for nearly three years and they share a three-year-old son together. Things didn’t end well between them.

After Edwards and Rose split, he admitted to cheating on his significant other with at least 12 women. Fans that care deeply about Cher and have followed the singer throughout her career would hate to see her go down a similar path with the music producer – who owns a record label and works for Def Jam.

In a 2018 interview with the Daily Mail, Cher detailed what she’s looking for in a relationship and detailed why a lot of her boyfriends don’t pan out. “The problem I have with all the boyfriends lately is that I don’t want to go any place with them because you can’t keep a relationship going in this kind of goldfish bowl.

Cher went on to explain how difficult it is to ‘keep something special’ when ‘everything you do and every picture you have taken will be on Instagram.’ And while she seems to want a relationship that’s out of the spotlight, her new relationship with Alexander Edwards has already made headlines across the country.
