Chris Rock Gets Daughter Kicked Out of School to Teach Her About Consequences

Chris Rock wants his two daughters to learn the importance of consequences and owning up to their mistakes. That’s why he made sure his daughter – Lola Simone – got kicked out of school after she got caught drinking while on a high school field trip in Portugal. And he did it in a way only a comedian can.

Rock talked about his parenting style and the situation with his daughter (which happened a few years ago) in his latest stand-up special – titled Selective Outrage – which debuted on Netflix on March 4. One of his goals as a parent is to make sure his children don’t grow up in a spoiled household and environment.

He explained how his daughter – who was in high school at the time – was in Portugal with her class when she got bored with her friends and decided to go out drinking (the legal drinking age in Portugal is 18). Unfortunately, the four girls ‘got busted,’ and the school wasn’t about to let them get away with it.

When Chris Rock and his ex-wife, Malaack Compton-Rock, first found out about the incident, they hired lawyers and intended to fight the incident to ensure Lola Simone didn’t get kicked out of school – much like the parents of the other three girls did. “Even the ones with lawyers got lawyers,” Chris joked.

Somewhere along the way, Chris started to realize his daughter wasn’t taking the situation seriously. “So, I come home from work, and I see Lola outside just laughing with three of her [girlfriends]. Lola is like, ‘Daddy, stop it. You’re so serious! I’ll be back in school in no time,” said Chris Rock in his Netflix special.

In an effort to teach his daughter a valuable lesson about consequences and taking accountability for her actions, Chris Rock took things into his own hands. He went to the school’s dean and bluntly asked them to “Please kick my child out.” Not long after, Lola and her girlfriends were no longer a part of the school.

Chris Rock and Malaack Compton-Rock were married for 18 years between 1996 and 2014 – their divorce was finalized in 2016. They share two daughters together – Lola Simone, 20, and Zahra Savannah, 19. Both parents have publicly expressed how proud they are of their daughters in the past.

Chris Rock Says Everything Worked Out Well for Lola

While Lola Simone ended up getting kicked out of school, Chris Rock expressed how that might’ve been the wake-up call she needed at the time. She eventually graduated from high school and is now pursuing a culinary career as she makes her way through culinary school in Europe.

In June 2020, Malaack posted a tribute to her eldest daughter on Instagram – who had just graduated high school and turned 18. “ I cannot believe we have reached these milestones! But I could not be prouder of the young woman she has become and am excited for her to begin university in Europe,” she wrote.

“Food and travel is her love language, and she sees life through the lens of communicating through food, culture, and community. I am so excited to parent her through this next phase of life. She is an extraordinary human being, and I love her so,” the proud mother continued.
