Dad of 5, Country Music Star Chris Stapleton Says Recent Protests Have Shown Him the America He Thought He Was Living in Is a Myth

Country music star Chris Stapleton says Black lives matter and he can’t understand how people could think they don’t. In an interview with CBS This Morning, the father of five went on to say that it is clear that the country as a whole needs some work.

“I think we all have a lot of work to do, you know, as individuals as a society,” Stapleton continued. “And if you don’t think that, I think you’re not looking.” In fact, Stapleton admitted that the recent protest spurred on by incidents of police brutality have shown him that “it’s time for me to listen. And it’s time for other folks to listen.”

“You know, I thought we were living in a different country. And that’s 100% real,” the singer told CBS This Morning. “I feel like the country that I thought that we were living in was a myth.”

Along with recently completing his newest album titled, Starting Over, Stapleton became a dad of five after his wife, fellow singer, Morgane Stapleton, gave birth on Mother’s Day 2019. It’s clear he’s hoping for a better world for his children to grow up in.

A song on the album called Watch You Burn features lyrics like, “Only a coward would pick up a gun, and shoot up a crowd trying to have fun.” As CBS This Morning reports, it is Stapleton’s reaction to the Las Vegas shooting that claimed the lives of 59 people who were at a 2017 country music festival.

The singer says the song is a plea in some ways, “to let’s cut the evil sh*t out.” And Stapleton now believes, following the recent awakening current events in this country have brought on, that “everybody should be doing more” in order to make America as good as it could be.
