Over the last couple of days, the world has been enthralled with the news that a balloon owned by China had veered so far off course that it found its way over the continental U.S.
Now, as Reuters reports, during the afternoon hours of February 4, U.S. fighter pilots, under President Biden’s orders, targeted the balloon and shot it down. In a statement made by the President, he confirmed the news, saying, “They successfully took it down, and I want to compliment our aviators who did it.”

According to Reuters, an “F-22 fighter jet from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia took the shot at 2:39 p.m.” The jet used a “single AIM-9X supersonic, heat-seeking, air-to-air missile.”
Further information revealed that “the balloon was shot down about six nautical miles off the U.S. coast, over relatively shallow water.” There is hope that debris from the spy balloon can still be recovered.
Now, a video shared by a civilian on TikTok is going viral. The user is claiming it is the exact moment the balloon had been shot down.
