After it was revealed Craig Melvin will be replacing Hoda Kotb at the anchor desk, the “Today” show co-host’ Craig Melvin’s wife, sports reporter Lindsay Czarniak, took to Instagram.
Czarniak and Melvin met on the job in 2008, when they were both reporters for WRC in Washington, D.C.
Today, they have been married for 13 years and share two children together.
Alongside photos of themselves back in 2008 and throughout the years, Czarniak praised her husband, congratulating him on his new role.
“My heart is honestly bursting,” she wrote. “Craig Melvin – I am so proud of you and so beyond grateful for the man you are. I almost announced the Today Show news on the intercom so the fellow passengers on my plane would know why I’m crying.”
Czarniak admitted she was “overwhelmed by the emotions that have come along with watching this morning’s announcement of you being named the new co-host of the Today Show.”
“I think seeing the news become official alongside your TV family has made it hit home even more what a true blessing this is,” she continued.
“The opportunity to watch the person you love see their dream come true is such a gift. I will never forget this day and the crowds’ excitement to share your good news.”
But despite the emotions Czarniak is feeling, the mom of two said she “shouldn’t be surprised, because I cry at sports all the time, but seeing you realize this dream has made me so proud of the way you carry yourself as a father, husband, friend, son, brother, colleague, etc.”
“You have shared so much about the village that got you to this point, but truly it’s the way you care for and ‘show up’ for the people in your village, that makes you so special.”
“You have worked so hard and you are the most talented person I know, but the way you make other people feel is everything. I felt that the first time we met on the anchor set in Washington, DC. You genuinely cared. That has never changed,” Czarniak continued.
“I’m proud because the man so many Americans ‘wake up with’ in the mornings truly is the same person we see at home. Warm, caring, curious, smart, funny, snacking on all the food being prepared,” she added with a smile.
Czarniak continued, saying regardless of how demanding, albeit rewarding, the job is, Melvin always puts his family first.
“You always put your best foot forward even when you’re tired. Coaching hoops, reading books, tackling kids during tickle wars… just hanging. I’m excited for America to get to ‘hang’ with you more each morning and to see how your God given gifts can continue to help others.”
“I love you, I love your Today Show family, I’m beyond grateful to be along on this ride,” she concluded. “Congratulations on a dream realized and a job so well deserved.”
Melvin was also emotional when the news was revealed to the public for the first time.
“I am beyond excited and grateful. I’ve enjoyed just a lifetime of blessings and this is the latest in a long line of blessings,” he said as his colleagues praised him.
