The relationship between TLC stars Kody Brown and many wives has taken a dramatic turn over the last year. Now Meri is speaking out.
At the moment, Kody is currently only in a relationship with one of his wives, the only one he is legally married to, Robin. In fact, one of his ex-wives, Christina, recently remarried and has vowed never to be in a plural marriage again.
Now, one of Kody’s other ex-wives, Meri, is speaking out about the cruel and heartless way Kody ended their marriage. “In our religious background and when he and I got married, we married with the intention of forever,” she explained during a confessional for their show “Sister Wives.”
In Meri’s mind, exchanging vows meant their marriage “literally was an eternal covenant.” However, years later, she learned Kody didn’t see it that way.
As Meri explained, Kody allegedly ended their relationship by telling her, “‘Well, I’m just not interested. You can stick around if you want.'” Meri admitted to being dumbfounded by Kody’s response, saying, “’Why would I want to do that eternally? Be with somebody who really just has changed his mind about me.’”
It was in that moment, Meri knew she too had to move on. “I said to him, because our life is public, why don’t we just be real open and honest about this? That we should discuss this and that we should really be open about our story with this? And he said, ‘No, I don’t want to do that.’ He said, ‘I just have so much criticism I don’t want to be open and vocal about it. Let’s just keep this between us.'”
That didn’t sit well with Meri either, admitting she didn’t want to “go the rest of my life hiding the fact that this is the way our relationship is.” Meri said, “This is my story too,” and she has every “right” to share it if she wants.
It’s unclear if Kody has plans to be in a polygamist relationship again. Currently, he is a monogamist.
It’s been a difficult year for Meri, who also just lost her brother. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, the Sister Wives star took to Instagram on Friday (Oct. 6) to post a touching and heartbreaking tribute in honor of her older brother, Adam Barber – who passed away on Thursday (Oct. 5), just two months shy of his 55th birthday.
