A near-fatal overdose threatened singer Demi Lovato‘s life in 2018. Years later, the artist is sharing more details about her harrowing experience. In an upcoming documentary, the singer reveals that she suffered three strokes and a heart attack.
The documentary, Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil, is set to premiere on YouTube next month and it will document the 28-year-old’s journey.
In a trailer released this week, Demi Lovato discusses the events around her unconscious body being found in her LA home after an overdose in 2018.
The intense trailer for Demi Lovato’s upcoming documentary gives us more insight to the star than ever before. It also contains an excerpt of a song of the same name.
In July 2018, the pop star was found unconscious at her residence in Los Angeles after an overdose, just months after relapsing. Lovato, who battled drug and alcohol addiction in years past, spent almost two weeks in a hospital before undergoing treatment at a rehab facility and sober living facility for months, as E! reported at the time.
“I had three strokes,” she says in the documentary’s trailer. “I had a heart attack. My doctors said that I had five to 10 more minutes.”
The former Disney Channel star also added, “I crossed a line that I had never crossed.” Her friend, actor Matthew Scott Montgomery, is then shown asking, “Are we talking about heroin? Are we doing that?”
Paramedics rushed to the Lovato’s home after receiving a 911 call and administered Narcan, a lifesaving opioid antidote, shortly after arriving. The Narcan was just an initial treatment and she required hospitalization to recover. The drug or combination of drugs that she had taken was never publicly confirmed at the time.
Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil‘s trailer also shows Lovato sleeping on a hospital bed while hooked up to an IV. Her mother, Dianna De La Garza, is shown saying, “We’re watching all of her blood come out of her body into a machine.” Montgomery can also be heard saying that his friend “can’t see anything.”
