Dolly Parton Will Never Tour Again, But Don’t Worry – She Has Big Plans for the Future

In 2016, Dolly Parton set off on her 12th headlining tour titled Pure & Simple – promoting her 43rd studio album. Now six years later, the 76-year-old singer/songwriter is confirming that Pure & Simple was the final tour of her career – she will no longer be touring in the future.

Don’t worry, this won’t be the end of her career and she already has a lot planned for the future. “I do not think I will ever tour again, but I do know I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then. Maybe do a long weekend of shows or just a few shows at a festival,” she said recently.

She explained how exhausting and time-consuming planning a tour can be. It takes months to actually plan a tour, as far as booking dates and all that. Then you’ve got to be gone for all that time, too. It’s more involved than people have any idea,” she said in an interview with Pollstar.

Parton opened up about her decision and explained her reasons for not touring. She says she has ‘no intention’ of going full-blown anymore, citing her desire to stay close to home with her husband of 56 years. The last thing she wants is to be on the road if something were to happen.

“I would not feel right about that if I were gone and somebody needed me. Or I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour if somebody got sick at home and needed me and then I had to walk out on the fans,” said Dolly Parton, adding she never knows what might happen on any given day.

With that said, she tipped her hat to the many advancements in technology that make it possible for artists like herself to connect with fans on a daily basis – even when not on tour. She plans on utilizing technology in the future to bring her fans new and exciting ways to enjoy her music.

Dolly Parton has enjoyed a legendary career in music, which has spanned more than six decades. She originally started writing songs for others in the 1950s before finding her own success as a singer in the 1960s. Her most recent album Run, Rose, Run was released in March.

Earlier this year, Dolly Parton announced her intent to record a rock and roll album – especially if she were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With her slated to be inducted this weekend, she doubled down on those plans and announced new details regarding the album.

In fact, she announced some of the people she would like to work with in the future – some of which will likely be featured on the upcoming album. Those names include Stevie Nicks, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, the Wilson sisters from the band Heart, and many more.

“… I love women who know who they are, stand their ground, and live up to who they are in their own mind, as well as trying to just stand up for what they believe and trying to be there for the people who are moved and inspired by them,” added Parton in her interview with Pollstar.
