Drew Barrymore Recalls ‘Nervous Breakdown’ After Having A Pregnancy Scare At 21 While On The Set Of ‘Scream’

Drew Barrymore recalled a moment when she was just 21 on the set of “Scream” that was so frightening, it led her to have a nervous breakdown.

Barrymore was only 21-years-old during the shoot in 1966 when she had a “nervous breakdown” after she believed she’d gotten pregnant as she had just started a new relationship with someone.

“I kept asking you, ‘How do you know if you’re pregnant? Like, I’m freaking out! We’re supposed to shoot this poster but oh my god, I just started dating somebody! How do you know?’” Drew continued.

“I felt safe going to you, like you were the mature, safe person in the room.”

Courteney, who was 32 years old at the time of filming, laughed and replied: “I was the older one and I was the right person to ask.”

In October, the mom of two divulged how she will be completely transparent to her daughters about her past.

On her daytime talk show, Barrymore shared, “I have become this mother that is ironically very chaste, very pillars-of-appropriateness — and I tell my daughters all the time, ‘The truth is, you’re going to find out that I wasn’t always like that and you’re gonna be uber-confused.”

Barrymore shared that when her daughters, 9-year-old Olive and 7-year-old Frankie, eventually “see pictures of me or my wild stuff” they will need to view them “in the terms of art and expression.”

She has already thought of a rebuttal to “Mom, look at what you did.”

“That’s the other thing — you don’t know you’re going to be a parent one day when you’re figuring it all out. None of us are like, ‘Well, you know, one day, this is going to be cataloged.’ I never thought about it. I was just living my life, trying to figure out who I was,’” she revealed.

She continued on, saying: “This is my favorite chapter of life. Parenting is the hardest and it’s the most challenging and it’s the most exhausting [thing], but it is the most fulfilling, eye-opening, incredible [experience].”

Barrymore shares Olive and Frankie with ex-husband Will Kopelman. The two were married from 2012 to 2016.
