It’s been a year full of stupid and the internet was not immune to 2020’s jaw-dropping foolishness. In fact, reading the dumb things people have posted online this year has been a highlight. No, we’re not describing crackpot conspiracy theories or reckless insinuations. That’s not funny. We are, however, after finding a simpler, more mundane form of stupid.
So, what are the most cringeworthy posts of the year? We took a look back and waded through the imbecilic waters of 2020 to discover what rusty treasure was hidden in plain sight. We honestly don’t know how we, as a species, have survived this long after combing through blatantly bad social media posts that have been published over the past several months. Buckle up! Here are 25 of the dumbest things people said online in 2020.
We’re not sure why the word salmonella trips so many people up! As we were doing research for this post, we noticed the bacteria confused with the fish several times. Also, this is dumb and disgusting.
Wear a Mask and What, Now?
“Please wear a mask and use the hand fertilizer,” is a message that does instill confidence that we will, indeed, weather this plague. The prospect of fertilizing hands is downright chilling.
Looks like someone never heard of Internet Technology. May we all remember the blissful days before ever having to contact an IT department. It was a simpler time.
We might not be Catholic but we know enough to know that the Pope is the chief pastor of the worldwide Catholic church. People really twist themselves into stupid knots just to hate.
Words Mean Things
If you somehow missed the cast iron discourse on Twitter recently, enjoy this exchange. We’re not entirely sure what people think the word “bourgeois” means. Cast iron pans and skillets are very affordable and they generally stay in families for generations.

Do you know the difference between a giraffe and an elephant? They look nothing alike, but somehow, this person mixed them up. Aside from that, this is a very tender post.
We love the beans and rice joke this one person made from another person spelling “human beings” as “human beans.” We’ll pass on those human beans, thanks!
We often wonder if the internet was a good idea. This is so shockingly stupid we can’t even put together the logic behind the initial tweet.
We can probably blame autocorrect for this mistake, but that doesn’t make it any less hilarious. “Full grown man having an organism on TV” is the television we did not know we needed.
My Cousin, Mexican
It’s a settled fact that Mexican food is the best food on the planet. Now, this person might have a Mexican cousin, but we’re pretty sure they meant cuisine in this instance.
The phrase “On the table” really got taken out of context here, didn’t it? We bet this person was a delight to haggle with.
If we had to pick a drag name, Goody Miss Tissues would definitely be a top contender. We think someone needs to stop texting and pay more attention to their teacher.
Honest question, what did they think 24/7 meant? Is this tweet about time travel?
There’s Only Room for One Leonardo
Leonardo DaVinci is the most famous Renaissance artist of all time and this person confused him with living actor Leonardo DiCaprio. We all need to slow down.
On the Liberian flag, the single white star represents the first independent republic in Africa, above the blue square representing the African continent. The USA, as most of you know, has fifty stars. We appreciate this person’s gentle correction on a patently dumb tweet.
This is a ride. We have to thank our friends at Buzzfeed for finding this gem. We really wish the best to the person who has just cut their hair. They need all the help they can get.
To Be Fair
We’ll take a fairest wheel over a ferris wheel any day of the week! We like our rides to come with equity!
Expect more stupidity in the coming days as the coronavirus vaccine rolls out. As you can see, the best and brightest of us are waging the dumb fight.
A Bird Leaf
In a way, feathers are the leaves of birds, but that’s not exactly right. We have gone a lifetime without seeing a feather referred to as a “bird leaf.” Pass the tissues because we’re crying!
Apparently, all of our social media platforms need to implement stronger spelling and grammar tools to help catch these sorts of mistakes. Insects can be beautiful! The other thing is very much not.
We don’t know about you but our nerfs have been a total wreck since the pandemic started. Our nerfs are just so fragile these days.
Poinsettias do not a point setting make. We’re very happy this person found a flowering plant that they enjoy. We hope they know what it actually is.
Party in the Attic
This had to be a text exchange among children, right? Adults know better than to make these obvious mistakes! Most people we know who enjoy whiskey do not often scream after drinking it. Perhaps we have boring friends.
This person forgot about a little thing called pregnancy. We’d like to be strapped to a rocket and shot to the moon, please.
Live and Learn
This person thought that they could invent public libraries. We hope they become a member of their local one and grab a book about the storied history of these institutions.
There you go! 25 really dumb posts from online that will make you question your faith in humanity. May these images be cautionary tales.
