Ed Sheeran, 30, Is Healthier And Happier Than Ever Now That He’s a Father

Singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran opened up last week on The Late Late Show with James Corden about the positive impacts fatherhood has had on his life. He and spouse Cherry Seaborn welcomed daughter Lyra Antarctica late last year.

Ed Sheeran is feeling better than ever now that he’s a dad.

James Corden opened up the conversation with Sheeran by complimenting the star, saying, “You’re looking fantastic! Are you on some kind of health kick?”

Ed Sheeran then revealed his beauty secret: fatherhood. He explained, “Well, I became a dad and I feel like my lifestyle shift has changed. Instead of going to bed at six [a.m.], I’m getting up at four. It just feels like what life was meant to be. It’s great. My days are structured.”

He continued, “I’m healthier than I’ve ever been. I’m exercising every day. I’m spending so much time at home making the record. Yeah, I feel like a human being. It’s good.”

Becoming a father helped him reconnect with his music.

Ed Sheeran explained that after touring for two years straight he was burnt out. He said, “I actually didn’t touch the guitar for months after my tour finished. I kind of had a crisis of confidence of like, I wanted to not work, but then I was like, ‘Work is my hobby.’ So I basically had to find different things that I had as hobbies so it wasn’t just all [music.] So I didn’t touch a guitar for ages.”

But, having his daughter helped him find his passion for music again. He continued, “Actually, when Lyra was born, that’s when I picked it up again and started singing to her.” She reconnected him to his roots as, “I was brought up on traditional Irish folk music and being able to sing trad songs to her was really, really sweet,”

Ed Sheeran loves being a girl dad.

On Kannon’s podcast Open House Party Sheeran explained that he would like to have more girls, saying, “I would obviously be super grateful to be able to have any more kids, but I think girls are far superior to boys. As a boy myself, I feel like I can say this.” But, he’s really happy with Lyra, explaining, “I feel like we were so lucky to be able to have one that I think I would obviously love more. But I think we’re so lucky to just have one. So if nothing else happens, I’m so happy, basically.”
