James Caan of Godfather and Elf fame has passed away. Reports announcing his passing began to spread on July 7.
As NBC News reported, Caan’s family revealed the beloved actor passed away on July 6. His cause of death was not immediately revealed to the public.
Caan was 82 years old at the time of his passing.
“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6,” his family revealed in a statement they posted to Twitter.
“The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
Caan was a regular on Twitter. He often ended his written tweets with the phrase, “End of tweet.” And that is exactly how his family ended their statement on Twitter.
Caan often used his Twitter to be nostalgic, sharing photos of his past work and favorite hobbies. “The Godfather, Misery, Thief, Brian’s Song, Rollerball, Hide in Plain Sight, The Gambler, El Dorado, Funny Lady, Elf,” his bio read.
