Elizabeth Chambers had what many would call the perfect life just a few years ago. She was enjoying a successful career and had two beautiful children with the love of her life, Armie Hammer – the former couple tied the knot in 2010 and were together for 10 years before their marriage started to fall apart.
On July 10, 2020, Chambers took to Instagram to announce her separation from Hammer. She filed for divorce but confirmed they’ll remain committed to their children as co-parents. “It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage,” she wrote.
Just six months later, turmoil came knocking on her door when disturbing allegations were made against her ex-husband – including cannibalistic fetishes, sexual abuse, rape allegations, and more. He allegedly shared his fantasies in text messages, which quickly went viral – leaving Chambers dazed and confused.

Now nearly two years later, Elizabeth Chambers is speaking out about the impact those allegations had on her and her children’s lives in an interview with Elle Magazine. She explained how the COVID-19 pandemic spurred their separation due to Hammer’s behavior and lack of commitment to the family.
While the months after the separation were happy and beautiful for her and her two children – both of whom she shares with Hammer – the allegations put an end to the ‘safe cocoon’ they were living in. “I was learning things as the public was,” she told Elle, adding she was at a loss for words at the time.
Instead of being there for herself, Elizabeth devoted her time and energy to listening to the many accusers and learning who her husband really was. She compared her journey towards fulfillment to being injured in a car accident – healing doesn’t happen in one day but rather consistently over time.
“Eventually, you’re brought to the emergency room and hooked up to an IV—and when I say eventually, this isn’t in one day, this is weeks and then months—and then you start physical therapy. Every day is moving toward that ultimate goal of being able to walk again.” Now, she’s metaphorically walking again.
Elizabeth Chambers Finally Ready to Move On
In 2023, Elizabeth Chambers isn’t allowing her ex-husband’s past actions define who she is and who her children will grow up to be. That’s why she’s currently writing a cooking book, creating a new television show, and even has a new boyfriend – who she says is helping her heal her mind, body, and heart.
“The last thing I ever want to do is let someone else’s actions, which have nothing to do with me, make me angry. It’s not going to help me, and it’s not going to help anyone around me,” she said in her Elle interview. She’s committed to helping her son and daughter escape the past few years trauma-free.
Elizabeth was also adamant about her support for Armie Hammer as he continues his own journey toward a better life. She wants him to be sober, she wants him to be healthy, and she wants him to be happy. “All you want is for your children to have two solid parents, right? That’s always the goal.”

She goes on to talk about how nothing is perfect, no matter how badly you wish for it. And, while the allegations surrounding her ex-husband will always be a narrative in her and her children’s life, she doesn’t want that to get in the way of who they are and who they’ll continue to grow up to be in the future.
