In July 2022, it was revealed that Elon Musk had welcomed two more children to his brood – a pair of twins with Shivon Zilis, who serves as the director of operations and special projects at Musk’s Neuralink company. By the time the world found out, the twin babies were already six months old.
Musk and Zilis welcomed the twins in November 2021 via in vitro fertilization (IVF), but that’s about all we knew about them – we didn’t even know their names. Well, that is until now. We can finally report – with confidence, at least – that the soon-to-be 2-year-old twins are named Strider (son) and Azure (daughter).
In an interview with Walter Isaacson (a famed biographer) for TIME magazine, which was published on Wednesday (September 6), Musk and Zilis let the world get their first look at the twins. A photo showed the two parents sitting on a couch with Strider sitting on Zilis’ lap and Azure sitting on Musk’s lap.
Before his interview began, Shivon Zilis made a batch of coffee for their guests. Elon Musk is known for his love of coffee and even had to cut back in recent years because he would become over-caffeinated. Walter Isaacson said Zilis put Musk’s coffee in the microwave – if it was piping hot, he wouldn’t chug it.
While promoting the interview on X (formerly known as Twitter before Musk changed the name), Isaacson also revealed a photo of Elon and his 3-year-old son, X AE A-XII (known as X), who was fascinated by a robot – following in his father’s footsteps, I suppose – and appeared to be giving the robot a handshake.
In the TIME interview, Musk talked about his fear of AI one day turning on humans and his ongoing struggle with Google’s Larry Page and OpenAI’s Sam Altman – who have both dismissed Musk’s fears, despite some very obsessive conversations about it. Nonetheless, Altman and Page don’t share that fear.
“What can be done to make AI safe?” Musk asked Isaacson. In fact, Elon had originally asked Isaacson to leave his phone inside while they talked so the conversation couldn’t be monitored. “I keep wrestling with that. What actions can we take to minimize AI danger and assure that human consciousness survives?”
Elon Musk Has Welcomed 10 Children Over the Past Two Decades
Elon Musk is a bit of a workaholic, but he still manages to find the time to be a present father to his 10 children – well, at least the ones who want to be a part of his life. To those who haven’t followed the world’s richest man over the past two decades, it might surprise you to know he has 10 children.
He shares six of those children with his ex-wife Justine Wilson. They welcomed a son, Nevada Alexander Musk, in 2002, but he died at 10 weeks due sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). They then welcomed twins Griffin and Vivian Musk in 2004 and triplets – Kai, Saxon, and Damian Musk – two years later.
The former couple divorced in 2008, but Musk wasn’t done adding to his family. He welcomed two children – X AE A-XII Musk in 2020 and Exa Dark Sideræl Musk (known as Y) in 2022 – with singer Grimes, but also secretly welcomed twins – Strider and Azure – with Shivon Zilis in November 2021.

Unfortunately for the children, they’re going to have to make their own fortune – if that’s what they want. “I am definitely not of the school of automatically giving my kids some shares of the companies, even if they have no interest or inclination or ability to manage the company,” Musk revealed. “I think that’s a mistake.”
