Emma Heming Willis Shares a Special PSA to All the Care Partners Out There: “Look for Something Beautiful”

Emma Heming Willis continues to openly share her personal experience as a care partner to her husband, Bruce Willis – who was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022 and frontotemporal dementia earlier this year. As his condition worsens, she’s urging fellow care partners to ‘break up’ their way of thinking.

In a new Instagram video on Monday (August 14), which Emma described as a ‘care partner PSA,’ she explained why she previously asked fellow care partners to share photos of beautiful things and/or moments with her and addressed why it might seem like she’s ‘living her best life’ while Bruce struggles.

“Your pictures are making me so happy” she said in the video – she was sitting in her vehicle and added that she just finished her hike. “I’m asking care partners to send me photos because I just think it’s so important for us to sort of break up our thinking, which can feel, for me, very much like doom and gloom.”

Emma Heming Willis went on to explain that while it may look like she’s ‘out living her best life,’ she has to ‘make a conscious effort every single day to live the best life that I can.’ She says she not only does it for herself, but does it for her two children and for Bruce Willis, who wouldn’t want her to live any other way.

“I don’t want it to be misconstrued that I’m good, because I’m not – I’m not good,” she said – adding that she has to put her best foot forward for the sake of her own wellbeing and that of her family. Through her own personal experience, she has learned that looking after yourself is essential to looking after others.

“When we are not looking after ourselves, we cannot look after anyone that we love,” she continued – adding that it’s not always easy and takes a certain level of patience. Even for her, she says it’s a conscious effort that doesn’t come to her easily, but she continues to do the best that she can – always.

“I just want you to take a moment out of your day – and I know that your day is stressful and I know that your day is hard – but I just want you just to break it up for a minute. Just for a second. And just look for something beautiful,” she concluded in the video – which was liked by more than 29,000 Instagram users.

Emma Heming Willis Previously Dedicated Her Birthday to Caregivers Around the World

This isn’t the first time Emma Heming Willis has opened up about her role as a care partner and certainly isn’t the first time she has spoken directly to all her fellow caregivers around the world. In fact, she took to Instagram on June 18 to celebrate her 44th birthday, but it wasn’t just her that she was celebrating.

One of her ‘few BIG birthday wishes’ was for everyone to ‘text or call a person in your life that’s a caregiver’ and ask them if there’s anything they can do to help this week (or any week). Knowing that most caregivers would try to decline, she told everyone to do something nice for them anyways.

“Drop some food at their doorstep or flowers or a small something and text them after to let them know it’s there. Or honestly, just tell them thank you and that they are doing a great job. That kindness and support will go such a long long way,” she wrote in the caption of a photo of herself blowing out a birthday candle.
