(Warning: The below 911 calls are difficult to listen to.)

As NPR reports, Haskins’ hung up the phone with his wife as he began his walk to get gas. But when he stopped answering her calls, she called 911.

In the newly released 911 call, Kalabrya Haskins explained her concerns to the 911 dispatcher, explaining that Haskins was walking to get gas after his car ran out while driving on the highway. “We were on the phone,” Kalabrya explained. “He said he was going to call me back after he said he was going to put the gas in. And I kept calling, I kept calling. He wouldn’t answer.”

“That’s just not like him so I’m not sure. He will call me back and his phone is all dead and he’s stranded by himself. He was walking though.”

After she explained that he was no longer answering her calls, the 911 dispatcher shared some shocking news. “I don’t want you to panic, but I am going to be honest with you,” the dispatcher told Kalabrya. “We do have an incident on the highway but I can’t confirm if that’s your husband or not.”

When the 911 dispatcher explained that rescue was at the scene, Kalabrya began to panic. Additional 911 calls were also made public with one witness explaining what she saw.

“There was a man hit in front of me,” a frantic caller said. “I was traveling on the road, and I saw a dump truck hit the man.” Another caller said there was “blood everywhere,” NPR reports.

According to Good Morning America, Haskins was struck by a second oncoming vehicle after the initial impact by the dump truck. In her first public statement since his passing, Kalabrya wrote, “I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to every loving soul who has supported our family during this arduous time of loss.”

She continued, in part, “The overwhelming thoughts and prayers have been fuel for our emotional depletion. All of your blessings have been greatly valued and appreciated. The meaningful touches and impact Dwayne made as a husband, son, brother, teammate, and friend is a timeless treasure imbrued in our hearts. I am truly grateful to everyone who has been by our side as we mourn his untimely passing. Our family implores for your continued prayers, yet continued respectful privacy as we painfully grieve.”

The former Ohio State star and current quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers was just 24 years old. Haskins would have celebrated his 25th birthday on May 3.
