American Idol alum Fantasia Barrino recently opened up about her struggle to conceive.
The singer and her husband Kendall Taylor, revealed to Tamron Hall in a recent episode of The Tamron Hall Show that it took her years to get pregnant naturally. The couple are now pregnant with their first child together.
“At first, we thought we were going to have to do different things,” Barrino told Hall about the possibility of her doing in vitro fertilization. “This is a three-year journey we’ve been on.”
Barrino met with a doctor to get a better understanding of what her options were and learned that one of her fallopian tubes had closed. After that, she told Hall that she and her husband, Kendall Taylor, had decided to “let God be God.”
I kid you not, I forgot about it,” she told Hall. “And then I woke up one night, and I was just like, ‘Something’s different.’ “
Barrino took six pregnancy tests to confirm the exciting news she suspected – and got positive results.
“I was so excited,” she exclaimed.
Taylor said he felt deep down that it was “gonna happen naturally” for the couple, though acknowledged that “everybody’s journey is different.”
The baby will be the first child for Tayler and Barrino, who got married in 2015 just three weeks after they met. Barrino has two children from prior relationships, Dallas Xaviar, 9, and Zion Quari, 19 and Taylor has a son named Treyshaun.
When I’m not hanging out with my three-year-old and husband in Brooklyn, I’m busy writing stories for Mamas Uncut and managing PR + Marketing for Magnolia Bakery, based in New York City. On weekends, you can usually find me at a local park or playground pushing my daughter on the swings, “researching” the best almond croissants in Park Slope or launching into impromptu family dance parties at home, the sidewalk or, every once in awhile, a restaurant bathroom. I’m still trying to master the whole parenting thing, but I have learned that copious amounts of coffee, humor and humility are involved on a daily basis.
Mamas Uncut is THE online place for moms. We cover the latest about motherhood, parenting, and entertainment as well – all with a mom-focused twist. So if you're looking for parenting advice from real parents, we have plenty of it, all for moms from moms, and also experts. Because, at the end of the day, our mission is focused solely on empowering moms and moms-to-be with the knowledge and answers they’re looking for in one safe space.
