A man in Oregon did the sweetest thing for his ten grandchildren: He bought them a school bus so that he could drive them all to school.
Right before Christmas, Doug Hayes presented the small yellow bus to his grandchildren. He had even gone so far as to personalize the school bus design, writing “Grandfather Express” on the side.
“When they saw it, they were ecstatic,” he told CNN.
Part of the reason Hayes opted to get the bus was because his five school-age grandchildren attend a small private school that does not have bussing. Each day, their parents drop them off at school.
He told CNN that “the kids always said, ‘Gee whiz, I like our school, but we would like to be able to have a school bus.”
The five grandchildren that attend the school all live within 20 minutes of each other so it makes it easy to pick them up and drop them off each day. The school is also conveniently located only a few miles from Hayes’ home.
Now, that problem has been solved.
In the coming years, his other five grandchildren will be attending school and will also be able to ride on the “Grandfather Express.”

Several months ago, Hayes’ wife asked if he had any goals he wanted to accomplish. He told her that he’d love to be able to take the kids to school. Soon the couple were on the hunt for the perfect vehicle to do just that and finally settled on the small yellow school bus. For safety measures, Hayes added seat belts to each seat.
