Former HGTV star Charles ‘Todd’ Hill Sentenced to 4 Years in Jail

Former HGTV star Charles ‘Todd’ Hill has been sentenced to four years jail time.

Fans of the Home and Garden Television Channel may recognize Todd who starred in the hit series Flip It to Win It. The show chronicled Todd buying rundown homes, fixing them up, and selling them for a profit.

However, as a press release from the County of Santa Clara’s Office of the District Attorney revealed, Todd was found to have “spent millions on overbudget remodels, laundered profits, and pocketed millions in fraudulently obtained money.”

In addition to the above crimes, Todd was also convicted of scams that occurred before he starred on HGTV, including a Ponzi scheme.

“He created a Ponzi scheme by taking an investor’s money budgeted to buy homes and, instead, used it to live lavishly. To hide the theft, he created false balance sheets and got loans using fraudulent information.”

It was learned that Todd spent the money “on a rented apartment in San Francisco, as well as hotels, vacations, and luxury cars.”

On April 16, in addition to jail time, Todd was also ordered to pay back nearly $9,402,678.43 after being found guilty of committing real estate and financial fraud against 11 victims back in September 2023 nearly 4 years after being indicted.

Victims at the former HGTV star’s sentencing hearing revealed that they are “still suffering financial and professional damages from the fraud.”

In a statement, District Attorney Jeff Rosen said, “Some see the huge amount of money in Silicon Valley real estate as a business opportunity. Others, unfortunately, see it as a criminal opportunity – and we will hold those people strictly accountable.”

Todd will also serve 10 years on probation.
