On Monday, we learned that the Baldwins had become parents to a surprise baby that was not on anyone’s radar. We knew the baby was a surprise but we did not know the surprise baby’s name until a day later. Recently, Hilaria Baldwin shared the baby’s name following the big reveal. She and Alec Baldwin chose Lucia for their newest addition.
It’s not often that celebrities seemingly pluck a newborn from thin air so their surprise baby has left many fans with a variety of unanswered questions. One fan’s eager questioning on Instagram even managed to elicit some choice words from Mr. Alec Baldwin on the matter!
Hilaria Baldwin revealed the name of her surprise baby, Lucia. The announcement about Lucia follows their last baby’s date of birth by five months.
“We are so in love with our daughter, Lucia,” Hilaria shared on Instagram. “Just like your brothers and sisters, you are a dream come true.” The sweet caption matches the preciousness of the image above it, a sleeping newborn can be seen in blush pink attire.
Fans were completely stunned after the Baldwins made the announcement the previous day. In the initial announcement, Hilaria cradling a newborn next to Eduardo (born in September), surrounded by her other young children: 2-year-old son Romeo Alejandro David, 4-year-old son Leonardo Ángel Charles, 5-year-old son Rafael Thomas, and 7-year-old daughter Carmen Gabriela. She captions the photo “7” as a reference to her six small children and Alec’s 25-year-old daughter, Ireland Baldwin, from a previous relationship with Kim Basinger.

This called for mass confusion among Baldwin-watchers who could not understand how Lucia had come to be. One aggressive interrogator went to Alec’s Instagram, where he had reposted the Lucia photo and tried their very best to get to the bottom of things.
“Who’s the mother?” the commenter’s blitz begins. “She wasn’t pregnant. She gave birth six months ago. If it was a surrogate just say that. If the baby was adopted just say that. If the baby was the product of an affair and you’ve decided to raise it with your wife just say that. If you don’t want to say anything – why don’t you both stop constantly posting and begging for clickbait. Just raise you 100 children in private.”
Alec Baldwin responds to comment in his signature style.
Surprising absolutely no one, Alec decided to angrily respond to the mildly mean comment. “You should shut the f–k up and mind your own business,” he replied.
Surprising absolutely no one, Alec’s reply only caused trolls to dig their heels in even deeper. One chose to go for the pseudo-scandal that rocked the Baldwins months earlier when it was revealed that Hilaria’s Spanish heritage was actually completely manufactured. It turned out the fitness guru had changed her name and was born Hillary Hayward Thomas. The commenter specifically brought up the fact of the name change.

To the comment, Alec responded, “Because, basically, they’re not very smart. Americans are people who know less about how to live a peaceful, healthy life than most of the civilized world.”
Following the Spanish scandal, Hilaria took a break from social media before returning with the comments feature disabled. Whether by act of a PR team or just pure luck, she has emerged unscathed following the recent baby announcement.
We are happy to meet Lucia, who Hilaria had wanted so very badly.
Hilaria had suffered a couple of miscarriages in 2019 which were devastating to her and her family. She had hoped she would become pregnant with a child so that her 7-year-old daughter could have a little sister. Then, the Baldwins learned they were pregnant with Eduardo.

“After the last experience, I do really dream about giving her a sister at some point,” Hilaria says, referring to previous miscarriages she’d experienced in 2019. “And who knows? Maybe this is going to be the last baby I have and maybe there will be another; I don’t really know at this point. I don’t really care to plan too much anymore. A healthy baby is such a blessing.”
It looks like that dream came true in the form of cute little Lucia.
