Jean Smart Shows Off Son Forrest On Red Carpet At Emmys 2021

Jean Smart, 70, showed off her son Forrest to the world at the 2021 Emmy Awards this past Sunday.

The two walked the red carpet together. Forrest was adopted from China in 2009.

She went on to thank Forrest, 13, and her older son, Connor, while accepting the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in “Hacks.”

In her speech, Smart called them “my two wonderful and unselfish children … who are both very courageous in their own right.”

She also thanked her husband, Richard Gilliland, in an emotional tribute. He had died in March after a brief illness.

“Before I say anything, I have to acknowledge my late husband, who passed away six months ago yesterday, and I would not be here without him. Without him putting his career on the back burner so that I could take advantage of all the wonderful opportunities I’ve had,” she said.

The actress and Gilliland, who was an actor, welcomed Connor, 31. And then, in 1989, they went on to adopt Forrest from China in 2009. Forrest told Karamo Brown on the red carpet Sunday that he was “very proud of his mom.” He also added how she deserved all the accolades because “she worked really hard.”

Smart, who dawned a stunning Ralph Lauren gown, was overwhelmed by the response and admitted she felt guilty for being away working, to which Forrest responded: “It was OK.”

Smart lost Gilliland, 71, after more than 30 years of marriage.

Right before her husband’s death, the two were scheduled to work together this summer in a film directed by Tate Taylor.

“He was a great dad, and he made me laugh every day,” Smart shared in a recent Variety interview. “Him passing away was just not ever even a thought. And it’s changed every moment of my everyday life; every atom of my existence I feel like is altered.”

“But I just want people to know how much he’s sacrificed for me to be where I am, and to get the opportunities that I’ve gotten and let his career kind of take a back seat to help take care of our home and our kids. And it kills me he didn’t get the chances that I got, because he was so talented. I was very lucky when I met him.”
