Jenelle Evans Opens Up About Custody Battle With Mother: ‘Jace Should Be Living With Me’

Things are heating up between Jenelle Evans and her mother, Barbara Evans. The two are currently in the middle of a court battle, but things took a turn for the worse on Thursday when MTV released a two-minute video catching up with Barbara, who has been quiet since 2019.

Barbara has kept herself out of the public eye since her daughter was fired in 2019. She gave Teen Mom fans an update on Jace – Jenelle’s oldest son – who apparently still lives with his grandmother, Barbara. She gained full custody of Jace in 2010 following Janelle’s arrest.

The video drew a lot of attention and several users shared their opinion on the family’s living situation – with one user commenting, “Jace was always meant to be with Barb.’ As you can likely expect, Jenelle Evans took exception to the comment and responded to it rather quickly.

“Comments like this is exactly why I don’t want to share my life anymore,” said Jenelle in an Instagram story, adding, “Don’t believe everything you see on your TV screen, or [are] hearing from a third party.” She argued that Jace “should be living with me” instead of Barbara.

Jenelle didn’t want fans to think she was bashing her mother, but she was adamant that she should have full custody of her child. “If there’s no problem with someone having their child, they should have them,” she continued, adding that comments like the one above ‘really hurt.’

Jenelle had Jace on August 6, 2009, with her then-boyfriend Andrew Lewis. At the time, she agreed to give her mother full custody of the child due to a lack of stability – financially, mentally, physically, and emotionally. In January, Barbara confirmed she still had full custody of the child.

Jenelle disputed the legitimacy of it then and she’s denying it again now. In fact, she’s arguing that her mother is trying to replace her with Jace – adding that she didn’t turn out to be the daughter Barbara wanted. She said Barbara was jealous when Jenelle had a baby of her own.

Since then, Jenelle has had two more children with two different men. She had a son named Kaiser on June 30, 2014, with then-boyfriend Nathan Griffith and a daughter named Ensley on January 24, 2017, with now-husband David Eason. She regularly shares photos of her family.

For fans that were hoping to see Jenelle Evans return to the Teen Mom franchise, don’t expect too much. Not only was she fired back in 2019 after her husband killed their dog for biting their daughter, but she revealed in August that she has no future plans of returning to the show.

“I ALONE decided to decline the terms within the agreement to pursue and further other career choices, based on the terms. It would have not aligned with my current opportunities,” said Jenelle – adding that she has “no hard feelings” toward MTV, its producers, and the other girls.

Still, MTV isn’t ready to shut that door completely. They’ve made it clear that they would welcome the alum back, should she be interested in the future. With that said, there will always be a chance that we will see her again. For now, we wish her the best in her future endeavors.

As for Barbara, she’ll continue to enjoy full custody of Jace and looks forward to seeing him continue to grow – adding that he’s entering puberty and is becoming quite the character. At 13 years old, she’s surprised at how fast the years are going by – but is enjoying every minute!
