Jennifer Garner just turned 51 years old a few months ago, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at her. The 13 Going on 30 star looks more like ‘51 Going on 25’ these days and is willing to share some of her secrets with the rest of the world – so listen up if you want to look and feel your best, even as you age!
The actress recently sat down for a Zoom interview with Shop TODAY and gave viewers some insight into her daily routines that make her look so young – including her eating habits, exercise habits, skincare routine, and some of the products she uses regularly. Her first tip? Sunscreen. She quoted Doris Day – not the actress, but a dermatologist who works in New York City – in saying, “Nothing looks better in your 50s than sunscreen in your 20s.” For all those out there that tend to skip sunscreen in lieu of a nice tan, Jennifer Garner says you should think twice.

“It is the most true thing you can possibly tell a young person. When you’re young, you just want to feel that tan, but it isn’t worth it. Tan is sun damage. You’ve got to be smart. You have to think long-term,” she tells the Shop TODAY team. And while that damage doesn’t show itself early, it’ll catch up to you quickly.
She also emphasized using sunscreen anywhere, everywhere, and whenever possible – not just your legs and arms, but your neck, ears, face, and any other part of the body that’s being exposed to sunlight. In fact, she even suggested putting sunscreen on the top of your head if you have a part in your hair.
“So I’ll keep some of that right in my car. And if I’m driving for a long time, I will reapply. Especially if I’m driving, I’m not even kidding, I’ll reapply for the left side of my body because it’s getting so much more sun exposure,” she said – implying there can never be too much sunscreen if you care about your skin health.
As far as what products she uses for her skin, she swears by ‘Neutrogena Invisible Daily Defense Body Sunscreen Spray’ and ‘Purescreen+ Tinted Sunscreen.’ She also uses ‘Neutrogena Hydro Boost Fragrance-Free Gel Facial Cleanser’ and ‘Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Face Oil Retinol Serum.’
Jennifer Garner Gives Exercise and Diet Recommendations
When she’s not taking care of her skin, Jennifer Garner is taking care of the rest of her body with regular exercise and a healthy, well-balanced diet. This might sound crazy to a lot of you out there, but she starts her day with a 5:30 a.m. workout – don’t worry, even she admits to needing coffee to get her day started.
For those that find it difficult to work out in the morning, she recommends picking out your workout clothes before going to bed. “I’m just trying to take away anything I can that is a barrier between me skipping a workout and doing it,” she said. As far as what exercises she does, she swears by the Peloton App.
