Weight gain is inevitable during pregnancy and the process of getting the weight off can be different from woman to woman. Jessica Simpson, who is no stranger to having her weight discussed at length, recently opened up to People about her postpartum weight loss journey after the birth of her third child.
The fashion mogul, who recently launched her new clothing line with mom Tina on HSN, spoke candidly about losing the 100-plus pounds she gained while pregnant with Birdie Mae who was born in March.

“It’s been a lot of hard work, I’ve been working very hard,” she said. “When you’re pregnant, I gain a lot, I mean, a lot. I didn’t expect to gain so much with my third. I thought I’d learned my lesson, but apparently, that’s just the way God made me, very hungry and pregnant.”
Simpson shared a picture of her postpartum body on Instagram, saying “6 months. 100 pounds down. (Yes, I tipped the scales at 240). My first trip away from #BIRDIEMAE and emotional for many reasons, but so proud to feel like myself again. Even when it felt impossible, I chose to work harder.”
As her body has changed with each pregnancy, so have her fashion choices.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get back to [my skinny jeans]. I save them and say, ‘One day,’” she told the outlet. “But after having kids, I don’t think that your hips really ever go completely back. Your body changes!”
To get her body and diet back on track, Simpson has been working with trainer Harley Pasternak. Together, along with co-trainer Sydney Liebs, they put together a program that focused on a “holistic approach,” rather than simply working out.
The plan focused on five main goals – getting sleep, a healthy approach to eating, daily exercise, unplugging from technology and getting in her allotted steps, beginning with 6,000 and working up to 12,000.
For her diet, Simpson referenced Pasternak’s Body Reset Diet, which is three meals a day and two snacks a day, providing flexibility for the busy mom-of-three.
The focus, though, was never about the number on the scale, but for Simpson to feel her best in her body after nearly a decade of pregnancy between her three kids.
In addition to her new clothing line, Simpson’s memoir will be released on February 4.
Congratulations, once again, to Jessica Simpson on her impressive weight loss. She looks good at any weight, but we’re glad she worked hard and is proud of the results!
