Counting On alum Jill Duggar Dillard and her partner Derick Dillard shared the heartbreaking news that they miscarried their third child The reality television personality revealed the news on Monday via Instagram, YouTube, and the family’s blog with a video that documents the early stages of her pregnancy.
The couple share sons Israel David, 6, and Samuel Scott, 4, who were told about their new sibling on the way. In the emotional video, the couple throws a pizza party for their two boys to share the news of the pregnancy.
Jill Duggar Dillard & Derick Dillard Shared the News on Their Family Blog in a Post Titled ‘Happines Turns to Heartbreak.
“We recently found out that we were expecting our third baby,” the pair wrote alongside the video on their blog. “We were all thrilled! It was fun to see so much joy in the boys’ faces as we shared the news with them.”
“They were full of questions and so excited as we talked about the pregnancy and how they would get to be involved along the way and after [the] baby was born.”
“However, a few days later we started miscarrying,” the post continues. “Even though it was too early to tell the baby’s gender, we picked a name that we feel encompasses our baby’s significance and the life we will always remember: River Bliss Dillard.”
The post continues with the couple’s reasoning behind the name River Bliss. “One meaning for River is ‘tranquil’…and here in Arkansas, rivers are often a serene, beautiful escape in nature,” the couple shared along with other symbolic and meaningful mentions of rivers in the bible.
“Our baby doesn’t get to live here with us on earth, but is forever with the source of the river of life, in the presence of the Lord!” the couple wrote. “And we chose Bliss for a middle name because our baby is living in perfect bliss with the Lord and was such a gift that brought immense joy and happiness to us even though only with us here on earth for a short time.”

While this is very sad news, it’s clear the Duggar-Dillard family is leaning on their faith to get through this difficult time. On their blog, they shared the following takeaway they found in scripture.
“The river of life (Holy Spirit), ‘flows from the throne of God,’ and with the tree of life is ‘for the healing of the nations.’ Our baby doesn’t get to live here with us on earth, but is forever with the source of the river of life, in the presence of the Lord!”
