Jill Duggar Dillard has had enough and she’s speaking her truth after being silenced by her family for so many years.
If you haven’t already heard, Jill, her husband, and several other of her extended family members are part of a documentary that focuses on her family’s deepest and darkest secrets. The documentary has been titled Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets.
And while the documentary doesn’t air until June 2, a new trailer for the documentary has been released and it reveals that Jill opens up in a big way when it comes to her oldest brother, Josh Duggar.
As Mamas Uncut has previously reported, Jill Duggar was one of the sisters Josh Duggar molested when he was a teenager. News that Josh molested five girls, four of them being his sisters, was initially revealed to the public in 2015.
The disturbing news led to TLC canceling the Duggar Family’s reality show. Seven years later, Josh would go on to be arrested, charged, and found guilty of possessing and receiving child pornography; though the two cases are not linked.
In the new trailer, Jill admits that her interview with Megyn Kelly in 2015 was not her idea, but that she was forced to speak out and defend Josh by her father. “I don’t even like to talk about it because it’s not something that I’m proud of,” she said in the interview.
During the interview, Jill and her sister Jessa Duggar Seewald defended Josh from being labeled a “child molester, pedophile or rapist,” but now admits she felt “obligated to do it” in order to save their reality show.
“There was an urgency in trying to figure out how the show was going to be handled in the wake of the 2015 events,” she said. “As far as recovery and damage control, you just feel like a burden and the weight falls on you to help.”
Jill’s husband, Derick, went as far as to call the interview with Megyn Kelly a “suicide mission.” Confirming Jill’s original statements that doing the interview was not “voluntary.”
“Like, ‘You’re gonna destroy yourself, but we need you to take the fall so we can carry the show forward because the show cannot fail.’ [The Duggars] were gonna do whatever they could to get the return on their investment. If that meant collateral damage, that meant collateral damage.”
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, several weeks ago, new information about Josh Duggar’s time in prison has come to light.
As it turns out, Josh had been held in the SHU, which is known as the “Special Housing Unit” of the Federal Correction Institute in Seagoville for nearly two months before that information was made known to the public. SHU is known to be solitary confinement.
The former reality star who is serving more than 12 years in prison after he was convicted of receiving and possessing child pornography was reportedly put into solitary confinement after he was found with a cell phone. His release date was also pushed from August 22, 2032, to October 2, 2032, The U.S. Sun reported.
Duggar has been released from solitary. The news was originally shared by the Ashley Reality Roundup, which reportedly spoke with a former prisoner at Seagoville, who revealed “cellphones are hot commodities in [prison].”
“Certain inmates get them and then basically rent them out to the other guys. If they’re caught and the phone gets taken away, the guy who rented it is responsible for paying the owner for it,” the former prisoner continued.
“That would usually be around $1,800-$2,000,” the former prisoner claimed. “So it’s possible that Josh would need to figure out how to pay it back.”
And although Josh was released from solitary confinement due to overcrowding, he still has not retained all of his privileges back, reports at the time suggested. Josh was still not allowed to have visitors, including his wife, for another 180 days and he will not have access to a phone. It’s unclear if that has since changed
Josh Duggar will be in prison longer than he expected. According to a report from The U.S. Sun, Duggar’s release date has been pushed back.
Jill wrote a lengthy statement following Josh’s sentencing.“Yesterday we learned that Josh was given a 151-month sentence in federal prison for his crime of CSAM,” the statement began.
“The last several weeks and months have been difficult emotionally. Yesterday was another one of those hard days. We are neither rejoicing nor disappointed by the sentence, but we are thankful it’s finally over. The Bible clearly states that God affects justice and vengeance through the governing authorities. Though some believe Josh should have received a greater sentence and still fewer believe he should have received a lighter sentence, God has carried out his vengeance today for his unspeakable criminal activity.”
Jill seemingly alluded to his past and present behaviors as the statement continued.
“Until now, he has yet to be held accountable to the extent necessary to cause change in his dangerous pattern of behavior,” the statement read. “It is unfortunate, but it seems that it may take spending over a decade in federal prison, and still more on probation, for Josh to have any potential for rehabilitation to the point he can safely live in society again.”
It was originally learned that the judge presiding over the hearings, Judge Timothy L. Brooks, believed Josh should attend sex offender treatment, and Seagoville, Texas is known for its in-prison program. And as Jill and Derek shared in their statement, they hope Josh will choose therapy.
“Hopefully, Josh can actually begin to get treatment and begin to work toward a lifestyle where he is less likely to re-offend. If for nothing else, the notoriety of this case has hopefully contributed to the deterrence of potential offenders and will help protect children by decreasing the demand for CSAM. We continue to love Josh and his family and will be there for them however we can.”
Josh still remains in the appeal process. It’s unclear when that chapter will unfold.
