Retired Pro Hockey Player Jimmy Hayes Passes Away Unexpectedly at 31 Just One Day After Celebrating Son’s 2nd Birthday

On August 23, retired professional hockey player, turned podcast host, Jimmy Hayes passed away unexpectedly. The day prior to his death, Hayes and his wife Kristen were celebrating their son’s second birthday.

Jimmy Hayes was just 31 years old when he passed away. As Hayes and Kristen’s social media accounts revealed, they had a blast celebrating Beau’s birthday.

According to The Boston Globe, Jimmy Hayes was pronounced dead at his home. The details of his passing or his cause of death have not yet been released.

He and Kristen, just three months ago, had welcomed their second child into the world on May 5. They named their baby boy Mac.

One video on Kristen’s Instagram Story even showed Hayes jumping on the trampoline with his growing boy! Kristen captioned another photo on her Instagram Story of Hayes pushing Beau and their youngest son Mac in their combined stroller, “My boys,” along with a white heart emoji.

Prior to Hayes’s passing, Kristen also posted photos of their friend group, all of which had sons around the same time! “Let’s keep making more babies,” Kristen wrote, adding, “so much fun celebrating these 3 boys over the weekend.”

“The cutest lil’ friendships (their dads all played hockey together at BC). If you make it to the end that’s a preview of college beau. Can’t wait to watch them grow up together!”

Kristen was able to save their last days together in a highlight reel on her Instagram profile. And just seven hours ago, she made her first statement since losing her husband.

In another highlight title, “My angel,” Kristen wrote, “My angel. I love you so much. I miss you. I don’t know how I’m going to do life without you. You should be here. This isn’t fair.”

During his last two years in the NHL, Jimmy Hayes played for his hometown team, the Boston Bruins. “The Boston Bruins are heartbroken by the passing of Dorchester native and former Bruin Jimmy Hayes,” the NHL team wrote. “Our thoughts are with his wife Kristen, his sons Beau and Mac, and the entire Hayes family during this very difficult time.”

His co-host for his podcast, Missin Curfew, also shared a statement. “We lost our brother today. Goodbye Jimmy, we will love you forever. Our thoughts, prayers, and love go out to the Hayes family, his wife Kristen, and his two beautiful boys, Beau and Mac. We are heartbroken and absolutely devastated today. We appreciate all the kind words.”

In the comments section of Kristen’s last Instagram post, her followers shared in their shock and devastation and offered their condolences to her, their boys, and the rest of their family.
