Singer John Legend wasn’t always the gentlemen we see today. In fact, in a brutally honest interview with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman, Legend admitted that he often cheated on women, it was only after meeting his wife, model Chrissy Teigen that he changed his ways.
While a guest on Shepard and Padman’s podcast, Armchair Expert, it was actually Shepard, who is married to actress Kristen Bell, who brought up the topic of being unfaithful. “I have a horrendous history of cheating. F–king deplorable,” Shepard said about himself before pointing out the many songs Legend has written about cheating.

John Legend Talks About His History as a Cheater
“There’s all these great cheating songs on your albums, and I was like, ‘I see another fisherman at sea,'” Shepard continued before Legend opened up about his past. “Yes, I did have a history of [cheating]. Definitely in my 20’s,” the 41-year-old singer responded per E! News.
“I think what happened for me, you go through a lot of your life in your teens and I was younger than everybody in high school and college, and so I just didn’t get a lot of girls. When I started to get that attention, I loved it. I escaped ‘technically cheating’ by keeping my relationship ill-defined. But it was really cheating. I definitely was dishonest and selfish… It was happening before I was famous.”
As many of Legend’s fans may know, the singer graduated high school at 16 and immediately went on to college. So when he started gaining some notoriety for his musical talent, when also meant attention from women, he admittedly took advantage of that attention.
Then he met Teigen, whom he has been married to for seven years and shares two kids with. “At a certain point, you just realize you’re happier being honest. You’re happier being faithful and being in love with one person.”
“At a certain point, I just decided that person was Chrissy,” Legend continued. “I decided I wasn’t gonna mess with somebody else anymore.” And as a result of their monogamous relationship, his life became “lighter” and freer. Legend also talked about the first night he and Teigen met and how love quickly followed.
“We’ve talked about it before, but we had sex the first night and hit it off. We were both seeing other people at the time. There was kind of a looseness at the very beginning, but we fell in love not long after that.”

In fact, the EGOT winner said that their high profile relationship helps keep him in line too. Adding that if he were to ever betray Teigen and his family, it would be career suicide. We mean, not that he would want to anyway.
