When it comes to getting pregnant naturally, Chrissy Teigen will tell you it’s never worked out for her in the past, so she surely didn’t think it would work out for her now. As people may already know, both of Teigen and John Legend’s children, Luna and Miles were conceived through IVF.
Now, Teigen is pregnant with her third child. The difference is that Teigen and Legend conceived this third child naturally when they weren’t even trying. Now Legend calls is their little “quarantine surprise.”
John Legend Explains Why Their Pregnancy Announcement Almost Didn’t Happen
As a result, the couple announced their pregnancy during the music video for one of Legend’s newest songs Wild. If you haven’t seen it, watch the beautiful video below.
But as Legend is now revealing in a new interview, the way in which they announced their third pregnancy almost didn’t happen. And the reason is that Teigen truly didn’t expect this pregnancy to work out especially after she had surgery while pregnant before she knew she was pregnant.
“She was kind of hedging her bets because we were early in our pregnancy,” Legend told People‘s senior editor Janine Rubenstein while a guest on a new series called BLACKPRINT. “We hadn’t taken all the tests to make sure everything is okay, and she said, ‘Let’s just shoot it.’ And by the time the video would be edited, we could decide whether or not to use that scene.”
It wasn’t until all of the tests came back telling them their third child was in good health that they ultimately decided to announce their pregnancy within the music video.
“Then all the tests came back great and everything was healthy and good, so we knew it wouldn’t be too early to tell people that we were pregnant by that point. So by the time the edit was done, we were comfortable saying to the world that we were pregnant. But at the moment, it was more like, ‘Let’s shoot it, and if we’re able to use it, we can. And if we can’t, we can’t.'”
Legend also admitted that he would joke about a quarantine baby boom because of all the couples who were spending more time with each other than they normally do. He just never thought he and Teigen would be a part of it.
“We just didn’t think we could have a baby the old-fashioned way, honestly,” Legend revealed. “I believed that there would be a quarantine baby boom, with all these couples spending more time together. And I would joke about it, but I figured it wouldn’t happen to us because we’ve had fertility struggles. And now it happened to us, too.”
And it’s something Legend feels “good” about. “My family is well,” he said.
