While the libel case between ex-lovers Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is on a week-long pause, a lot of people seem to be focusing on a single moment during Amber Heard’s testimony. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Depp is suing his ex-wife Heard over an op-ed she wrote in 2018.
Depp says Heard’s article implicated him as her abuser and as a result, lost out on several jobs over the last few years. He is seeking $50 million in damages.
Why Did Johnny Depp’s Lawyer Fist Pump When Amber Heard Brought Up Kate Moss In her Testimony
And if you’ve been watching the hearing closely, you may have seen the moment so many people are talking about. The moment took place during Heard’s testimony when she brought up one of Depp’s other exes, supermodel Kate Moss.
While on the stand, Heard discussed a moment where she claimed she was worried Johnny Depp may hit her sister, Whitney when she got between them during an argument near a staircase. Heard said she ”instantly [thought] of Kate Moss and the stairs and I swung at him.”
According to Forbes, Heard was referring to a story she was told about Depp and Moss’s relationship which took place in the 90s. During the libel case between Depp and The Sun, Heard claimed two people told her Depp once pushed Moss down some stairs.
However, Moss has never accused Depp of abuse, nor has she confirmed this story publicly. And it seems as though Depp’s legal team appreciated Heard saying Kate Moss’s name.
When Heard made her comment cameras caught on of Johnny Depp’s lawyer fist-pumping and Depp, himself, acknowledging it with a smile. While it still isn’t clear why they reacted that way, some people have shared their theories.
The general consensus is that this now allows Depp’s team to legally talk about Moss with Heard during their cross-examination. They can even call Moss as a witness if they so choose to.
While Heard never named Depp in her 2018 op-ed, he says the assumptions cost him a lot of jobs. However, the actor remains steadfast that he never hit Heard or any other woman in his life.
The libel trial is set to resume on May 16. One can only imagine what lies ahead.
