On January 15, reports revealed that 16 and Pregnant star Jordan Cashmyer was found dead. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Cashmyer was just 26 years old at the time of her passing.
Cashmyer was also a mom of two. According to her family, Cashmyer recently gave birth to her second child, a daughter, just 6 months before her passing.
’16 and Pregnant’ Star Jordan Cashmyer’s Family Speaks Out Following Tragic Passing
In a statement issued on the GoFundMe account Cashmyer’s family started for her daughter, Lyla, they confirmed that Cashmyer was still dealing with addiction at the time of her passing. “Addiction plagues many families, and our family was not immune to it. Jordan was always so full of life and full of personality.”
“She had a way of always making those around her laugh and smile, and her smile was truly contagious. Our family is heartbroken, and we will forever miss Jordan,” the GoFundMe statement reads. “We are now faced with the grim outcome that our grandaughter that we have been raising will never get to make memories with her mother or father, never getting to know them.”
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, it is believed Cashmyer welcomed Lyla into the world while engaged to a man named Micheal Frank Schaffer. Sadly, Schaffer also lost his life in September 2021.

As her family’s statement continued, Lyla was just two months old when her father passed away. “Lyla lost her father to addiction at two months & now her mother at six months.”
“Our family has to now not only put our daughter to rest but navigate through starting over with an infant who has lost both her parents in her six months of life. Please help our family cover the costs of Jordan’s memorial and start a fund for Lyla’s future. We did not foresee starting back over, and all that comes along with that.”
During Cashmyer’s time on 16 and pregnant, the world watched as the then-teen mom struggled with some very harsh realities such as homelessness when her family disowned her because they didn’t support her relationship with her first child’s father, Derek Taylor. While the show detailed Taylor’s mom assuming temporary custody of their daughter, Evie, Cashmyer’s relationship with her family remained a question mark.
It’s unclear how much time the Cashmyer family gets with Evie. However, it seems as though Cashmyer was working on her relationship with her family prior to her unexpected passing.
“Lyla has been our family’s greatest joy and addition; she has been our saving grace during this difficult time,” the statement concluded. “Myself, my wife, our kids, and sweet little Lyla have been shown so much love and words of kindness in the past nine days since Jordan’s passing. Our hearts are grateful. We pray Jordan is finally at peace.”
In a statement released shortly after Cashmyer passed away, her representative admitted that the 26-year-old was turning her life around. “This is an incredibly sad day,” the rep told E! News at the time. “Jordan was a sweet and caring person. Las we spoke she was doing well and seemed to be in a good place mentally and physically.”
