Joy Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth recently shared the devastating news that their second child, a girl, was stillborn at 20 weeks. Stillborn births affect approximately 1 in 100 pregnancies every year in the United States.
Joy shared the news via the couple’s Instagram page, revealing, “We named her Annabell Elise. Annabell means ‘God has favored me,’ and Elise means, ‘God satisfies.’ What a precious thing to know that when our daughter opened her eyes, the first she saw was the face of Jesus.”
The couple went to the doctor’s office for a routine scan during the second trimester and found that the baby’s heart had stopped beating.
Joy and Austin celebrated their sweet girl with a photo shoot. Joy recently shared the touching photos on the couple’s Instagram page.
She captioned the images, “We only had her for 20 weeks, Life is fragile and precious. So thankful the Lord gave her to us for that short time! She will be in our hearts forever!” She also thanks fans for their love and support.
The Duggar family was by Joy and Austin’s side at the hospital during this difficult time. Michelle, Joy’s mom, also suffered a loss of a similar nature, miscarrying at 18 weeks.
The couple had just announced that they were expecting 10 weeks ago in an Instagram post.
Joy and Austin also have a 1-year-old son, Gideon.
Our thoughts are with Joy Anna Duggar, Austin Forsyth, and their family following the heartbreaking news of their stillborn daughter.
When I’m not hanging out with my three-year-old and husband in Brooklyn, I’m busy writing stories for Mamas Uncut and managing PR + Marketing for Magnolia Bakery, based in New York City. On weekends, you can usually find me at a local park or playground pushing my daughter on the swings, “researching” the best almond croissants in Park Slope or launching into impromptu family dance parties at home, the sidewalk or, every once in awhile, a restaurant bathroom. I’m still trying to master the whole parenting thing, but I have learned that copious amounts of coffee, humor and humility are involved on a daily basis.
