Kanye West Had Donated 2 Million Dollars to Families Fighting for Justices and Is Also Funding George Floyd’s Daughter’s College Education

Kanye West is hoping to make George Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter’s future brighter and he’s doing so by putting his money where his mouth is. While West has been unusually quiet on social media, E! News confirmed that the father of four has set up a college fund for Gianna Floyd and his also giving money to the victims of two other instances of police brutality.

According to E! News, over the last several weeks, the rapper, who is married to Kim Kardashian West, has donated “$2 million in relation to the deaths of George FloydAhmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor and has been donating to several black-owned businesses in his Chicago hometown.”

On top of those donations, West has also set up a college fund for Floyd’s daughter. Floyd died on May 25 after he was detained by four, now former, police officers. After one of the police officers, Derek Chauvin, kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes as he begged for his life, Floyd fell unconscious and never woke up.

The donations given to the Arbery and Taylor families are meant to be used for legal fees as they continue to fight for justice. According to The New York Times, Arbery was a 25-year-old black man from Georgia who was jogging when he was stopped by a group of white men and shot to death.

One of the men involved in his murder claimed that he was outside his home when he saw Arbery on his jog. That man, Gregory McMichael, said he believed Arbery looked like a person who was involved in a string of robberies in his neighborhood and called his son for back up. Arbery was not armed.

Breonna Taylor would have turned 27 this week. Sadly, as The New York Times also reported, she was killed by police in March when Louisville police officers used a battering ram to get into Breonna Taylor’s apartment. The police were executing a search warrant after a judge believed two drug dealers had used Taylor’s apartment to receive packages.

Taylor, who was an emergency room technician, reportedly engaged in “a brief confrontation” with the police which ended in them firing off several rounds, “striking her at least eight times.” According to police, the confrontation also included Taylor’s boyfriend who was in bed with her. They say it was the boyfriend who shot his gun first.

Kanye also appeared at one of the Chicago rallies last week.
