For Middleton’s 2020 photography exhibition, Hold Still, in autumn of 2020, Middelton had phone calls with the finalist “to find out more about the stories behind their photos.”
Of the 100 pictures chosen for the exhibit, the Duchess of Cambridge’s close friends, Jason Baird and Andrew Baldock‘s photo was chosen.
It pictures Jason doing a backflip while dressed as Spider-Man while children watch from their windows. Middleton praised Baird’s photo, saying “…it was such a wonderful, positive image of community spirit and it was amazingly captured.”
Jason and Andrew, who are martial artists, would use the one-hour relief break during the lockdown period and dress up as Spider-Man to bring happiness to children by circling the community and eventually, many people joined them [dressed as Iron Man, Batman, Wonder Woman and even Snow White and a Stormtrooper].
The children began dressing up as Spiderman, even putting up signs in their windows: “Spider-Man Stop Here.”
At the end of the conversation, Kate’s joked: “I’ll see if it takes on the trend here at Kensington Palace. Might have to buy William a suit to go and see… Unfortunately, I’m not so sure he’s going to get the air clearance that you’ve got! [laughs]”
In honor of the publication of Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020 last Friday, Kensington Palace shared Kate’s phone call with 4-year-old Mila, who appeared in the image “Shielding Mila.”
The little girl was forced to isolate herself from her father and big sister last year while she was receiving chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
“Good morning, Your Royal Highness,” Mila began the call — leading in with her impressive knowledge on The Royal Family. “I know all your kids’ names,” Mila told Kate during the chat.
“Do you?” Middleton replied. “What are their names — can you remember?”
Mila went on to (correctly) rattle off Kate’s offspring: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — and Kate was so impressed, she gave a cheer.
Kate went on to talk about her youngest child, who celebrated his third birthday on April 23. “Louis has gotten so big now — he’s very quick running around,” Kate shared. “And he’s on his little scooter as well. He’s very quick. I can’t keep up with him!”
